SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Health officials have confirmed a positive case of COVID-19 at an assisted living center in the College Area.On Wednesday, 10News tried to get answers from Stellar Care Center, located just south of the College Area. On Tuesday night, San Diego County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten revealed that they were looking into a patient at the home who may have tested positive. “Our staff [is] investigating this situation and once it's determined if there's individuals or patients with influenza-like illnesses, the staff there will collect specimen and send them to our lab for testing,” she stated.Across the country, concerns over the spread of the virus in nursing homes continues to grow. In Kirkland, Wash., an outbreak of the virus at the Life Care assisted living center lead to at least 35 reported deaths, according the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Louisiana, seven deaths have been linked to a retirement community out of New Orleans. 10News reached out to Stellar Care Center and San Diego County for additional information. A spokesperson for San Diego County writes, "I can confirm that there is a positive case of COVID-19 at Stellar Care Assisted Living. Skilled nursing facilities throughout the County have amplified their protocols to address the COVID-19 pandemic using strategies similar to those recommended by the County of San Diego in responding to an influenza outbreak. These protocols include limiting the amount of people in congregant settings (including meals, activities and visitors) while amplifying cleaning and sanitation measures and providing additional training for staff."The State Department of Social Services writes, “In order to protect confidentiality, we are not able confirm or provide details regarding specific individuals or locations.” 1835

LEGO "Master Builder" Jessica Ewud is passing along her creative knowledge through virtual LEGO art classes. "To keep the kids occupied," says Ewud. "While they are stuck inside during this pandemic with nothing to do."Ewud is a professional artist who was looking to transform her art in a creative way. Then one night, she had a dream she created an Abraham Lincoln made out of LEGO. She thought the idea was so brilliant, she went out and got the materials to make it."I'd always thought of Lego as a kids toy, but as an artist, I was looking at it differently. I was looking at it as an art medium," she said.Her art creations got her noticed, and she was chosen to participate in the competition show, LEGO Masters, where she became a show finalist. She also has one of her LEGO artworks on display at LEGOLAND."I got selected out of thousands of people to be on Lego Masters, and my peacock is on display at LEGOLAND," says Ewud.And now she is passing along her knowledge, by offering virtual LEGO art classes."I'm offering some awesome classes online via Outschool," said Ewud. "I try to make my classes as engaging and creative as possible. I feel when kids are stuck inside, the best thing they can do is be creative." 1391

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For the third day in a row, the county is reporting record-high coronavirus numbers.The county is reporting 440 new cases Friday, bringing the total to 12,401.In addition to new cases, the county also hit one of its 13 triggers. County officials said Friday that the average number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has increased by 19 percent in three days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — FBI investigators are searching for a yellow Chevrolet Camaro in connection with an incident at a local park in May.Investigators say the individuals associated with the vehicle may have been a witness to the incident on May 31, 2020, at Kenmore Terrace Mini Park. The FBI did not elaborate on the incident.The Camaro is described as a two-door coupe with bright yellow paint and is believed to be a fifth-generation model year (2010-2015). In contrast to the yellow paint on the body of the Camaro, the hood, trunk, and spoiler are black. The vehicle also has a sunroof. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Higher than usual tide will crash along San Diego County's shores this weekend as king tides roll into the coast.King tides are expected to pound San Diego's coastline between Jan. 10 to 12 and again Feb. 8 and 9. The naturally occurring high tide happens when there is an alignment of the gravitational pull between the sun and moon, according to the California King Tides Project.While the outcome produces amazing imagery and scenes of ocean water splashing over shorelines, it can be hazardous at times. King tides during stormy weather have the potential to cause damage or flooding to coastal communities.FORECAST: Latest 10News weather forecast for San Diego CountyOutside of bad weather, locals should still be careful when getting close to the high tides. Tides can also take a toll on areas of San Diego's coast experiencing erosion.Saturday, king tides are expected to bring tides as high as 7-feet in the morning, according to tidal charts.
