A Michigan couple that was married for 47 years both died from COVID-19 just a minute apart from each other.Patricia and Leslie McWaters were both born in Jackson, Michigan, and married on April 16, 1973. A New York appeals court has cleared the way for a publisher to distribute a tell-all book by President Donald Trump's niece over the objections of the president's brother. The New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division issued the written decision late Wednesday. The appeals court lifted a restraint that a judge put on Simon & Schuster that sought to block its distribution. But it left in place restraints against Mary Trump. She's the author of “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.” The publisher, Simon & Schuster, and a lawyer for Mary Trump praised the ruling. A pair of children, ages 1 and 3, were shot inside of a car Thursday evening outside the University Of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, the Jackson Police Chief told the Clarion-Ledger reported. The shooting briefly prompted fears of an active shooter on the university's campus, causing a heavy police response. The Clarion-Ledger reported that one child was shot in the leg, and the other in the torso. Their conditions have not been publicly released. Following the shooting, a female driver transported the children to the hospital. The suspect was still on the loose as of Thursday evening.  655

A suburban Chicago police officer responding Sunday to a shooting at a bar killed a security guard who was just "doing his job," an attorney for the victim's family said.An officer from Midlothian, a Chicago suburb, fatally shot Jemel Roberson, a 26-year-old security guard working at the bar, Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari told CNN.Several law enforcement agencies responded to the shooting around 4 a.m. at Manny's Blue Room Lounge in Robbins, about 20 miles south of Chicago, Ansari said. Three people and an alleged shooter were injured, she added.Then, after Roberson had apprehended an alleged gunman, the Midlothian officer shot Roberson outside the bar, according to a federal lawsuit filed Monday that calls the fatal shooting "excessive and unreasonable" and claims it violated Roberson's civil rights.Witnesses said security had asked several drunk men to leave the bar, and at least one person returned to the bar and opened fire, CNN affiliate WGN reported. A New York man was arrested and charged with hate crimes Friday night after anti-Semitic messages were found in a temple, police said.James Polite, 26, faces multiple charges, including fourth-degree criminal mischief as a hate crime and second-degree aggravated harassment as a hate crime in connection with anti-Semitic remarks found at the temple and fires set at several locations in Brooklyn hours later.On Thursday night, graffiti was found on four floors of the Union Temple in Brooklyn's Prospect Heights neighborhood, some of which said "Hitler," "Jews better be ready" and "Die Jew rats we are here," the New York Police Department said.Polite was also charged with second-degree arson and second-degree reckless endangerment -- both hate crimes -- in connection with a fire set early Friday in the coat closet of a Yeshiva school on Hewes Street in the Williamsburg neighborhood and fires at six other nearby locations, the NYPD said.The locations appear to be associated with the Jewish community in Brooklyn.A janitor at the Yeshiva school noticed the fire, which was likely set between 2 and 2:30 a.m., and called authorities, NYPD Sgt.
