Nearly 800 nurses were on a picket line Tuesday in Pennsylvania. The nurses work at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, near Philadelphia, and they say they are walking off the job to fight for their patients.At issue is the hospital’s contract with the nurse’s union. The nurses want a new contract with higher wages and safeguards for patient safety.The nurses say they are caring for more patients during the coronavirus pandemic than they should, and that is putting patients at risk.“Safe staffing is the main issue in our negotiation--it's why we organized last year in the first place,” says Kathy McKamey R.N., who works on St Mary's MG2 unit and has been at the hospital for 10 years, said in a statement provided by the union.The hospital’s owner, Trinity Health, said the union rejected a contract last week that included higher wages.Hospitals in the Philadelphia area told the Philadelphia Inquirer that they would hire replacement nurses to work if the union goes on strike."We respect the union members’ right to strike, and we remain committed to negotiating in good faith to reach agreement on a fair, consistent and sustainable initial contract for St. Mary nurses. The Lightning won the best-of-seven series 4-2 after winning Monday’s Game 6 contest by a 2-0 ledger.The Lightning won the Stanley Cup despite not having the services of its top forward Steven Stamkos for most of the playoffs. Stamkos briefly played in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, and he even scored a goal in his short appearance.The NHL suspended its season on March 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a nearly four-month hiatus, the NHL resumed action with a 24-team playoff held in two “hub” cities – Edmonton and Toronto.The entirety of the Stanley Cup Finals was played in Edmonton.Stepping up for the absent Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point helped the Lightning to victory. More than 40 percent of attendees at an overnight summer camp became infected with Covid-19 within days before officials shut it down, according to the CDC.Local media reports it was a YMCA camp near a lake in Rabun County, Georgia.More than 260 staff and campers tested positive for the coronavirus, out of a total 597 people who were at the camp sometime between when it opened and when it closed in mid-June. Of the 260 who tested positive, 231 were campers aged 6 to 17 years old.In their report published Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says camp officials followed most of their recommended safety protocols. They say the two measures not implemented were cloth masks for campers and opening windows and doors for increased ventilation in buildings. Masks were required for staff members.The camp held orientation for staff members and trainees between June 17 to 21, then were joined by hundreds of kids on June 21 for a week-long camp session.On June 23, a teen staff member left the camp after developing chills the night before. They tested positive for Covid-19, and the camp began sending kids home on June 24. The entire camp was closed June 27.The camp was adhering to Georgia’s Executive Order that allowed overnight camps and required negative coronavirus tests less than 11 days before attending.“These findings demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 spread efficiently in a youth-centric overnight setting, resulting in high attack rates among persons in all age groups, despite efforts by camp officials to implement most recommended strategies to prevent transmission,” says the CDC report on this outbreak.From the 136 cases where the CDC was able to gather symptom data, about 26 percent of those who tested positive for coronavirus had no symptoms at the time. 1804

More than 20 fire departments are working to burn down a Beaver Dam, Wisconsin apartment building where a deadly explosion happened last week. City officials said dangerous chemicals inside of the structure made it too dangerous for residents to re-enter, and that burning the building to the ground is the safest way to prevent any injuries."We have carefully reviewed this, and we firmly believe this is the action that needs to be taken, unfortunately," said Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel at a Wednesday evening news conference. The five, neighboring buildings in the apartment complex were evacuated ahead of Thursday's controlled burn. Streets in the area were shut down at 9 a.m.Around 10 o'clock, firefighters lit both ends of the apartment building at 109 Knaup Dr. on fire and allowed it to burn towards the middle. Large shipping containers were placed around building 109 to help contain the heat and flames. Mannel said staffing of the fire trucks surrounding the building is minimal, and that firefighters only plan to step in and control the flames if they threatened any of the nearby structures. Police on Wednesday identified 28-year old Benjamin Morrow as the man killed in last Monday's blast. According to authorities, Morrow lived in one of the units.Beaver Dam Police Chief John Kreuziger said investigators continue to suspect that Morrow was building a bomb inside of the apartment. According to his obituary, Morrow worked in the quality department at Richelieu Foods in Beaver Dam for almost a year. His obituary describes him as "a hard worker" who "had a good rapport with all those around him."Police and the FBI continue to investigate why Morrow was in possession of the volatile chemicals that required them to eventually burn the building down.Kreuziger on Wednesday declined to comment on what the chemicals inside of the apartment were. City officials said the plan is for evacuated residents to be allowed back into their homes this evening. That's also when they plan to re-open nearby streets. The EPA has placed air monitoring devices in the area. Mannel said the EPA can also test the air in individual apartments within the evacuation zone at the request of residents. 2336
