CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - A La Jolla man bought Carlsbad Fire Station 3 from the city and is making renovation plans so he can move in.Carlsbad firefighters worked out of the fire house on Catalina Drive for 40 years before moving to a newer, bigger station down the street in 2016."We kinda miss them because it was nice having them here, but I do think it's great that he's moving in," neighbor Diane Nogle said.Neighbors said the firefighters were a huge part of their cul-de-sac. Charles Colletti, the new owner, said they brought a cake to a neighboring girl's home on her birthday.Colletti said he bought the house for 3,000 to move closer to his daughter and grandchildren. Wednesday he walked through the home with a contractor, designing the future, "it needs a lot of work, the outside looks like a Brady Bunch house."Some of those proposed changes: new floors, new appliances, extending the kitchen, demolishing the fire chief's room downstairs, and moving the awkward bathroom in the middle of the floor plan.Colletti insisted he didn't want to take the fire station out of the house."I would love to keep some fire department, fire engine, stuff, memorabilia," Colletti said. "I was actually searching for a classic fire truck that I could potentially restore that I could keep here."Another selling point for him and a place that won't see much change is the garage.Colletti is planning on storing his classic car collection inside. Fourteen in all, including BMWs, Porsches, and Volkswagens.The only thing Colletti noticed that was missin: a fire pole. "We're considering installing one, just so when everybody asks me the question I can say yes, it does." Colletti said that's been one of his most asked questions. Colletti said he wants the station to continue serving the community, whether that's rescued pet adoptions with Second Chance, or bringing the firefighters back to the neighborhood."I'd love to reach out to them and invite them over to block parties because they're not that far away."Colletti will be moving in on July 15. CAMP PENDLETON (KGTV) - A training accident on Camp Pendleton that left several Marines with severe burns may have been caused by an exposed gas line, a report from the Washington Post indicated Friday.Camp Pendleton officials said Marines from 1st Marine Division were conducting "scheduled battalion training" on land when a vehicle caught fire September 12.The 15 Marines were taken to various area hospitals.The vehicle involved was identified as an Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) used to transport Marines from sea to land. The AAV performed a maneuver which caused it to run over a gas line, sever it with its tire treads, and ignite the line, the Washington Post reported.The official report on the fire has not yet been released by the Marine Corps. 777

(KGTV) — This month, Legoland California will celebrate its 20th birthday with new entertainment, desserts, and a special deal for youngsters.On March 20, Legoland will celebrate its birthday by giving one special park-goer, who is also celebrating his or her birthday, the chance to open the park for the day. The first 1,000 kids in the park will also get free child-size minifigure hands and get to attend a birthday-themed park opening ceremony.At the center of the party will stand a Lego birthday cake consisting of more than 51,000 Lego bricks, showcasing the attractions added to the park since it opened in 1999.The festivities continue all year long, with special birthday desserts, pop badges, and more for park guests. CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., (KGTV)-- Thousands of US Marines stormed a makeshift town today as part of the largest amphibious exercise in Camp Pendleton's history. With their guns drawn and light on their feet, the Marines at Camp Pendleton have one objective: secure the Red Beach Combat Town. The town is a collection of makeshift structures off Las Pulgas Road just west of Interstate 5.The scenario was this: The soldiers are fighting the enemy from a near-pier threat. The Marines got battle-ready at sea, aboard the USS Somerset and USS Macon Island, thanks to their special partnership with the US Navy. "We spend a lot of time on ship, a lot of time coordinating with the sailors themselves inside the welded deck inside the ship," Amphibious Assault [AAV] Section Leader, Sgt. Kenneth Larkin said. "Being able to rely on each other for the safety of our vehicles and our members, it's phenomenal."From ship to shore, the men and women arrive on their AAV. They creep onto shore at seven mph, then book it on land. The crew drops off the infantry, ant the combat simulation begins. This scenario kicks off this year's Steel Knight Exercise. With 13,000 Marines and sailors participating, it is the largest iteration of the Steel Knight Exercise at Camp Pendleton."The Marine Corps prides itself on being amphibious, so this is one of those exercises where the division gets involved. The entire division of Camp Pendleton," Infantry Platoon Sgt. Ethan Rhoades said. "It basically hones our skills to actually go from ship to shore and to seize an objective likely would in a real-time conflict."For two weeks straight, the men and women will repeat the aerial and amphibious exercises. Tough training in the elements will prepare them for real-life scenarios.
