TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) — Mexican authorities arrested three people in connection to the slayings of two teenage Honduran migrants.Police executed a search warrant in Tijuana Tuesday night after they said Esmerelda N., Carlos N., and Francisco N. kidnapped and killed the teenagers over the weekend. 10News tracked down Uriel Gonzalez, the General Coordinator of the YMCA Homes for Migrant Youth - Mexico. He said the three unaccompanied minors traveled alone from their home towns in Honduras to seek temporary refuge in Mexico. For the time they were at the shelter they were well behaved. So when they went missing on Saturday around lunch time, his staff believed they had walked off their open-door campus to visit friends at another shelter. When one came back seriously injured, he realized they were targeted.“They were kidnapping the kids that are in a very vulnerable position, who are not Mexicans. Migrants are very attractive for organized crime, because of the extortion and the money they can ask to their families,” Gonzalez said. According to Baja California prosecutors, three Honduran migrants seeking refuge at the Tijuana YMCA Youth Shelter were on their way to El Barretal, the main caravan shelter Saturday night. A witness told authorities two men and one woman robbed and kidnapped the three boys during the walk.Later that night, the bodies of two boys, 16 and 17 years old, were found in a Tijuana alleyway. They had been stabbed and strangled. Despite being seriously injured, a third teen managed to escape. According to the Youth Shelter organizer, the boys arrived in the US-Mexico border city as part of the migrant caravan about two to three weeks ago. In the time they were at the shelter, they never had any disciplinary issues.Shelter staff members have since asked the Mexican government to increase security measures in the area.Investigators said the deaths are among the many recent violent incidents happening in and around the migrant shelters in Tijuana. On Tuesday night, two people walking on the street threw a can of tear gas into El Barretal. The migrants were not injured and the facility was not damaged. Investigators said this is another example of the growing tensions and impatience between asylum seekers and local Mexicans. 2287

The year 2020 has proven it knows how to challenge people who live in places like the Gulf Coast.Multiple storms slammed the state of Louisiana and the city of Lake Charles.Dr. Tyson Green lost his home in Hurricane Laura in August. His family evacuated before the storm as he rode it out in a Lake Charles hospital so he could be close to his patients. His community now faces a recovery that is expected to take years.“I don't know how you begin to put it into words, to be honest with you. We’ve had a tough year, to say the least," Green said. "I think with the combination of the pandemic, the hurricanes, the resurgence of the pandemic that beat us while we were down, it’s been rough, but we are getting better we are coming together as a community."Since the storm, he's raised money for nurses and healthcare workers who were impacted by Mother Nature this year. His GoFundMe has raised more than ,000 dollars. The money raised is key, especially during the holiday season."It was such a blessing to be able to give them something through the GoFundMe efforts that we did. The ability to give them a better Christmas, people that lost everything, even the people who lost what they had and were reimbursed by whatever means insurance or FEMA, they still didn't have the means. They still didn’t have the extra money that we need around the holidays for their kids," Green said.2020's hurricane season broke several records. Thirteen of the 30 named storms became hurricanes during 2020's hurricane season. 1524

There is no question the coronavirus pandemic is changing how Americans shop, with an increase in delivery, drive thru and curbside pick-up.Later this year, fans of Wawa will be able to get their favorite convenience store items in a drive thru. The east coast-based company announced they are building a freestanding drive-thru at an intersection in Lower Bucks County Pennsylvania. They are also adding drive-thru features to a Wawa under construction in Westhampton, New Jersey. In a press release, Wawa says the standalone store, not attached to a gas station, will feature “state-of-the-art technology to quickly order Wawa’s most popular food and beverages, including value meals, combo meals along with coffee and specialty beverages.” If the drive-thru line gets too long, customers will be able to pull into curbside parking and wait for their order.Construction will start this month, with an opening planned for December.“We are hoping to learn from the layout, workflow and traffic flow at this location, as we continue to explore alternatives for longer term application to our stores post-COVID-19,” said Terri Micklin, Director of Construction, Wawa. 1172

There's a new app out there that's promises to help people check for skin cancer. It's called Miiskin. It's the first app to use artificial intelligence to do full-body skin mapping. It also uses augmented reality to track how moles, freckles and skin change over time.Doctors say apps like these can actually help during this pandemic.“That has led to a significant decrease in visits for screening such as colon cancer, lung cancer, and skin cancer is of course one of those that actually is affected by the pandemic,” said Dr. Arturo Loaiza-Bonilla with Cancer Treatment Centers of America. When doctors and patients are dealing with cancer, time is of the essence.Tools like this app don't replace doctor's visits, but they can help with early detection.“One month of losing a cancer that was just newly found is almost a 10% increase in mortality, so if the screening comes a year later when the cancer is already starting, then we are in a pretty dark situation,” said Loaiza-Bonilla.Doctors at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America say that while the apps shouldn't replace a full physical assessment, they can be used as an additional tool to track new moles and see how certain things develop. If you are at a higher risk for skin cancer and want to use one of these apps, it's important that you do so under doctor supervision. These apps are still not considered a medical device.Doctors hope these tools can eventually be paired with medical records, so patients can be empowered by knowing more about their own health. 1537
