SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A bluff that overlooks Beacon’s Beach in Encinitas is on the brink of collapsing, which could mean changes for the walking trail that leads visitors down to the beach. The City of Encinitas says the bluff is at risk. There is a low-lying failure and the bluff could fall, taking the walking trail with it.“We’ve been told by our experts that there is a chance that the slide could happen at any time,”says Brenda Wisneski, Developmental Services Director for the City of Encinitas. Visitors at Beacon’s Beach say they feel the walking trail makes the beach different from others. “It’s one of my favorite beaches in all of San Diego. A part of that is because of the access, this trail is highly unique and it's not stairs,” says Mark Tayer. The city has a proposal to add a staircase south of the entry to the trail.“That is the most safe, the most secure. It requires a minimal amount of stability at the base of it,” says Wisneski.Wisneski says the city also has plans to move the parking lot back from the failure area. This could mean fewer parking spaces for visitors. The city hopes to begin construction in the fall of 2019. The proposal will go to the planning commission next. The trail will stay there until it poses a safety issue to visitors. On Wednesday, the City of Encinitas will have an open house where members of the community can voice their concerns. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Weather forecasters are warning of "near-critical fire weather conditions" Sunday evening through Tuesday morning in San Diego County because of developing Santa Ana winds."Areas west of the mountains will see a sharp rise in temperatures early this week," the National Weather Service said, "with coastal locations potentially experiencing their hottest conditions so far this year."Inland areas and especially deserts will remain very warm through Thursday, the NWS said, before widespread cooling takes hold late in the week.Early morning satellite images showed widespread clouds extending to the coastal slopes, but much thinner than Saturday and with less uniform coverage, forecasters said. With clouds breaking up, clearer skies Sunday afternoon will allow temperatures to rise several degrees higher than on Saturday.Santa Ana winds will strengthen on Monday, with maximum gusts of 40 to 45 mph as humidity plummets, resulting in elevated fire weather conditions, the NWS said. Highs near 80 and 90 for coastal and inland valleys are expected."Model guidance suggests coastal highs on Tuesday could be the hottest so far this year, climbing well into the 80s." forecasters said. "Depending on the timing of the return to onshore flow, it's conceivable for some coastal cities to reach the low 90s.""All in all, temperatures will be around 20 degrees above normal at the coast, and 10-15 degrees above normal for inland valleys, where temperatures may near 100 degrees in spots," they said.Off the coast of San Diego County, gusty winds and large combined seas will create hazardous boating conditions through Monday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested after Border Patrol agents discovered nearly million in cash hidden in his SUV’s gas tank.On Aug. 5, at around 10:30 a.m., Border Patrol officials said agents spotted a suspicious Volkswagen Touareg on southbound Interstate 15 in Escondido and pulled the vehicle over.After a K-9 alerted agents to something in the SUV, agents questioned the 26-year-old driver. During a search of the vehicle, agents found 65 plastic-wrapped bundles of cash in the gas tank.According to officials, there was 7,460 in cash stuffed in the tank.The driver, a Mexican national, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security “with pending criminal proceedings,” officials said.Agents seized the cash and SUV.In a news release, Chief Patrol Agent Aaron Heitke said, “The U.S. Border Patrol works tirelessly to protect the Homeland from transnational criminal organizations - the same criminal enterprises that poison our communities with narcotics and smuggle human beings like cargo. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men were shot Saturday evening while standing on a sidewalk in the Mountain View area of San Diego.It happened about 6 p.m. in the 1000 block of South 45th Street, said San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.The two victims were standing on the sidewalk with others, Heims said. "A vehicle was eastbound on Newton Avenue when it stopped in the intersection and someone inside fired multiple rounds at the group."A 44-year-old man was shot in the head and paramedics took him to a hospital, the officer said. "At this time, his injuries are non-life-threatening."A 29-year-old man was shot in the right arm and driven to a hospital by an unknown person, Heims said. His wound was not believed life-threatening.The car involved in the shooting was described as an early model small, light-colored sedan. 830
