SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The mother of two children killed in a Rancho Bernardo condo fire last month wants to meet the person who called 911, a family friend says.7-year-old Isabella Lopez and her 10-year-old brother Christos died in a fire at Bernardo Terrace, October 28.The children’s funeral is November 10 and the friend who has been helping plan it says the kids’ mom wants to thank the 911 caller for giving her a final moment with her dying son.RELATED: Two children dead, father in critical condition after Rancho Bernardo fire“She didn’t get it with her daughter, but she got it with her son and that means the world to her,“ said Sam Trink, “If they didn’t call when they did, she would not have gotten an extra three minutes with her son.”The funeral is being held at Grace Point church in Del Mar Heights. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Tempers flared at a meeting of the Community Review Board On Police Practices Tuesday night. Dozens spoke out against the San Diego Police Department’s chokehold policy. Members of the Racial Justice Coalition wants to ban the practice, saying it’s excessive force and potentially deadly.  San Diego’s new police Chief David Nisleit called the comments at the meeting “passionate.” He said he heard them loud and clear but had questions about the doing away with the chokehold as some law enforcement agencies around the country have done.“Anytime you take a use of force tactic away from an officer, they generally have to go a higher level,” Nisleit said. “So my concern on that, and why I’m hitting pause to take a hard look at this, is I want to make sure that if we continue or discontinue, it's for the very right reasons. I want to look at the LAPD and the Chicago Police Department and their information on what has happened prior to and more importantly, what has happened afterward to see if more higher level of force had to be used.”The chokehold is expected to come to the review board again at their May meeting. 1163

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The iconic California Tower reached a major milestone Wednesday, welcoming its 100,000th visitor after it reopened in 2015.The tower was built in 1915 but closed in 1935 amid the great depression. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego declared Thursday, August 6, as "Officer Jonathan Wiese Day."Wiese was the San Diego police officer who saved two-year-old twin girls after their father drove off Sunset Cliffs in June. The officer also saved the girls' father from the water.On Thursday, a proclamation was read and presented during a virtual Rancho Bernardo Community Council meeting.Wiese said he didn't rescue the girls for recognition, but said it was nice to see community support.The rescue happened early in the morning on June 13. Wiese, a K-9 officer, rappelled off a cliff using his 100-foot long dog leash to help.Wiese told 10News he is actually scared of heights and was thankful that it was dark the morning of the rescue.He joked that his wife told him he wouldn't have to wash the dishes on his day and that he hoped he'd get a free cup of coffee.Wiese was also the officer that helped take the suspected Poway Synagogue shooter into custody in April 2019. 989
