NBC host Megyn Kelly apologized to colleagues on Tuesday after her comments defending racist Halloween gags prompted an immediate backlash."One of the wonderful things about my job is that I get the chance to express and hear a lot of opinions," Kelly said in the internal note, a copy of which was provided by a spokesperson for NBC. "Today is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views."Kelly made the offending remarks during an awkward roundtable discussion about inappropriate and offensive costumes on her eponymous one-hour block of the "Today" show, known as "Megyn Kelly Today."During the segment on Tuesday, Kelly said it was OK when she was growing up for white people to dress up as black characters, and she spoke out against a controversy that erupted last year over a reality star who portrayed Diana Ross."But what is racist?" Kelly asked. "Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character."Later in the discussion, Kelly brought up Luann de Lesseps, a star on "The Real Housewives of New York" who drew a backlash last year for dressing up as Ross."There was a controversy on The Real Housewives of New York with Luann, and she dressed as Diana Ross, and she made her skin look darker than it really is and people said that that was racist," Kelly said. "And I don't know, I felt like who doesn't love Diana Ross? She wants to look like Diana Ross for one day. I don't know how, like, that got racist on Halloween."(De Lesseps apologized for the costume, but denied altering her skin.)Many observers were aghast at Kelly's comments, and some noted that the panel did not include a single person of color. And absent from the discussion was any mention of the ugly history of blackface, a tradition spanning centuries meant to perpetuate racist stereotypes.But the panelists on Tuesday did not echo Kelly's point of view."If you think it's offensive, it probably is," said the author and television host Melissa Rivers. "Whatever happened to just, manners and polite society?""But on Halloween? On Halloween you've got guys running around with fake axes coming out of their head," Kelly replied. MLB and the MLBPA jointly announced on Friday that 31 players tested positive for COVID-19 this week amid the first round of tests as players resume training ahead of this year’s shortened season.Teams began working out this week at ballparks across the US as the coronavirus-shortened season is slated to get underway in three weeks. As part of MLB’s plan to resume, players and support staff will be frequently tested for the virus.But MLB is unique insofar that other major team sports in the US are planning on resuming play in hub cities instead of traveling from city to city. Both the MLS and NBA will play out of Orlando, Florida, while the NHL will resume in the near future at two yet-to-be determined hubs..All told, MLB said it conducted 3,185 samples, with 1.2% coming back positive. (KGTV) - Some unexpected joy is arriving in the mail for residents of local senior care facilities, amid the ongoing restrictions on visitors.When the coronavirus pandemic forced visitor restrictions on nursing homes, Terri Martinson was conflicted. Her father is a resident at Parkview at Paradise Village in National City. She was happy the health of her father - Clyde Hasemeyer - was being protected, but she knows her dad."My dad is very social. He loves getting visitors, and telling jokes, playing games, singing and laughing. I was really concerned he wouldn't have any visitors," said Martinson.She and her family call often and write letters, but a few days ago, Clyde got a letter from someone he doesn't know. Clyde, a Koren War Marine Veteran, received a letter from 14-year-old Christian Hughes.10news caught up with Christian and his mother Mariana a few days ago as they began a letter-writing campaign for local senior care facilities. Their idea caught fire on social media. Hundreds of letters and cards have started to arrive at nursing homes, ending up in the hands and hearts of people like Clyde."My dad was so happy. He laughed and enjoyed it so much. He asked the caregiver to tape them up on his wall, so he could look at them all the time. Just makes him feel so nice not to be so isolated away from everyone," said Martinson.It's a feeling of not being alone during a time of staying apart. Multiple people were busy Monday morning in Fort Pierce rescuing baby sea turtles that were stuck in seaweed from the high surf and strong winds of Hurricane Irma.The rescue was occurring at 10 a.m. at Jetty Park. A man named Eric said he spoke with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, who told him to put wet sand in a bucket and collect the stranded turtles.    FWC originally said to put the turtles back into the water but later changed their mind.“Originally FWC told me to put them back into the water, but we noticed that they were just coming right back onto the shore because the waves are just too strong for these little creatures,” said Eric.He said when other people in the area saw what he was doing, they jumped in to help with the rescue.The group of people were frantically digging through a massive mound of seaweed with their bare hands to save as many turtles as possible.By 10 a.m., the group had rescued about 50 to 60 baby sea turtles and nine eggs that were not broken. Unfortunatly they found about 20 small turtles that did not survive Irma.FWC said they come by later to collect the turtles.  1181
