SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of friends from Del Norte High School in 4S Ranch have turned their summer boredom into a way to help others.Andrew Zhang, Jerry Wu, Nick Genovese and Rishi Peddakama are 3D printing face shields and donating them to local hospitals."I guess we were all just kind of feeling like restless and we needed to do something during this like difficult time," Zhang says on why he and his friends decided to start making PPE from scratch. The boys have turned their summertime hobby into a new non-profit, Shield Our Health Heroes. Their website has a place for donations, and all of the money goes towards materials for more face shields. So far, they've raised enough money to donate 750 face shields to 10 local hospitals."We've been told multiple times that our shields fit better and are better quality than a lot of the shields that they're getting," says Genovese."I really think we are making an impact in our community," adds WU. "Our products are actually really helping these health care workers who need these."The four friends each brought their unique talents to the group effort. Andrew came up with the idea and has spearheaded the project. Rishi built the website and set up the donation PayPal account. Jerry does all of the social media and advertising. Nick contacts the hotels and sets up the deliveries."We try to make it hassle free for them," says Peddakama."We just really want to give back during this time," says Zhang. "And this helps make sure they're staying safe as well." 1529

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A fan was removed from Petco Park Wednesday, after using "foul language" toward a player. As the San Diego Padres took on the Arizona Diamondbacks, the unnamed fan berated a player on the field. The player was Diamondbacks right fielder Adam Jones, according to the Arizona Republic.Upon hearing the fan's language during a play in the fifth inning, Jones spoke with security to remove the fan, the Republic reported.RELATED: After nearly 30 years, Germany's San Diego Padres-themed bar closes"On the street, they’d never do that. In the ballpark when you’ve paid your admission, there’s no need for all that stuff. The second I hear somebody cussing us out, you’re gone. I could care less that they’re gone. That’s just how it is," Jones, who is a native of San Diego, told the Republic. "I made a nice play, and just hearing the B-word, F-word, that’s not baseball talk. So … he gone.”The Padres confirmed a fan was removed, adding the guest code of conduct is verbally stated twice per game."Consistent with our club and MLB policies, a fan was removed from the game yesterday for using foul language toward a player on the field," Craig Hughner, Padres director of communications, said in a statement. "The Padres reserve the right to remove any guest at any time who does not comply with the Petco Park Guest Code of Conduct, which includes the use of foul and abusive language or obscene gestures."The team's guest code of conduct is available online here.RELATED: Manny Machado crushes first homer as Padres avoid Diamondbacks sweepWednesday's incident isn't the first time Jones has faced foul language from a fan.In 2017, Jones said a Fenway Park fan called him the N-word during a game between the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox. The next night, a fan used the same word, reportedly about the national anthem singer, and was permanently banned from the stadium after another fan reported it.Jones told the Republic the Petco Park incident didn't rise to the same severity in language as the Fenway Park event. 2051

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A group of San Diego politicians presented a plan to White House officials Tuesday to finally address the flow of sewage from Mexico into U.S. waters. The centerpiece of the proposal is a 4 million treatment facility that would be able to process 163 million gallons of runoff a day.Local officials estimate the facility would be able to reduce the number days that sewage flows across the border from 138 to 12.“That’s 12 days more than it should be, but its certainly a lot better than the current situation is,” said San Diego Supervisor Greg Cox.He traveled to Washington for a meeting with White House officials on Tuesday, along with a delegation including San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina and Port of San Diego Chairman Garry Bonelli. “We had a very good meeting,” reported Cox. “They were very impressed. The gentleman from the EPA, who’s in the best position to move the ball forward with us, said he’d never seen a more united effort coming from San Diego to deal with this problem.”Officials are looking at three potential funding sources. One would require Congress to pass a series of bills that would allocate .5 billion to the North American Development Bank (NADBank.)Money from NADBank can be used for the financing of infrastructure and water pollution projects on both sides of the border.A second option would also require an act of Congress, approving HR 4039 introduced by Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA.) The bill would allocate 0 million a year for five years to the EPA’s Border Water Infrastructure Program (BWIP.) Money from that account could also be used to fund the project. The third potential funding vehicle would be an increase to the International Boundary and Water Commission budget. Money for the IBWC is determined in agreements and treaties between the two countries. 1865
