SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A staff member at West Hills High School has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Grossmont Union High School District.The families of 23 students in classes affected by the positive test have been notified and will not participate in in-person classes for 14 days, according to GUHSD PIO Catherine Martin.Those students will continue their instruction virtually during that time, Martin added. All other West Hills students will continue their in-person or distance learning classes as scheduled.In a letter to parents, West Hills High principal Robin Ballarin said after reviewing the positive test with public health officials, there is no need to close the school for in-person learning."We have cleaned and disinfected, as appropriate, and our campus has been deemed safe for occupancy. We understand that this information is concerning. Staff members and students who may have come into close contact with the individual will be directly contacted by San Diego County Public Health with further instructions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An SUV reported stolen crashed as it fled from San Diego police, killing three of the vehicle’s occupants.At around 11 p.m. Tuesday, police were near the intersection of 24th Street and Island Avenue in Sherman Heights when they spotted a silver 2003 Honda Pilot SUV traveling without its headlights on, before learning that it was reported stolen a day earlier by Chula Vista Police.The driver ran a red light while traveling east on Market Street, according to SDPD. When officers tried to pull the SUV over, the driver sped away towards Interstate 15.Officers lost sight of the vehicle. Moments later, with a police helicopter tracking the SUV, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a pole on Market Street, near Raven Street, in the Mount Hope area.According to police, two of the four people inside were ejected from the vehicle and two others were trapped in the wreckage. Emergency responders took one person to the hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, but they are expected to survive. The driver and two other passengers were declared dead at the scene, police said.No other injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.The initial investigation revealed that none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seat belts as the vehicle was traveling more than 100 mph just before the crash, police said. 1387

Gavin Newsom to reopen Disneyland Resort theme parks.According to the Voice of Orange County website, Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu said the city is looking at a 0 million budget deficit. Sidhu added that half of the city's general fund budget comes from Disneyland's revenue and the Anaheim Convention Center.The city is now asking Newsom to issue COVID-related health guidelines for theme parks.USA Today reported park officials believe theme parks have been left waiting on the sidelines while other parts of the state economy have reopened. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Among being big, bold and beautiful, the Torrey Pine tree could also be the solution when it comes to helping with the world's water crisis."As a child we would go hiking there [Torrey Pines] every single weekend and see how there were giant puddles under the tree."And those puddles gave Cambridge High senior, Emily Tianshi, her "a-ha" moment."When Torrey Pines are that big that means they're confident they can get enough moisture soaked in through the atmospheric moisture harvesting, and they don't mind if there's a little bit more evaporation," Emily said.She spent years studying the water retaining tree, trying to mimic it's pines that bring water in and pour it out."Really late at night I would bring my prototype out then put it there and hopefully capture some fog, then go back early to see if anything happened."Her patent pending prototype recently gained national recognition from the Water Environmental Federation."It was really exciting because it showed me it has a lot of potential within the water sector," Emily described.With it, she wanted to one day help areas facing drought."Investigators estimated that if they captured just 4% of the moisture in Chile, it would be enough to cover the nation's driest areas to supply everything."She's also created a campaign with her brother called Clearwater Innovation with two goals in mind."First and foremost to spread awareness about the water crisis and secondly to encourage kids to use their creativity to solve the problem and innovate out of their comfort zone.
