RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Cal Fire San Diego responded quickly to a house fire in Ramona that spread to nearby brush. According to firefighters, the fire started inside a structure on the 16000 block of Salida Del Sol. The fire quickly spread to nearby vegetation fueled by low humidity and high winds. Firefighters responded with ground crews and dropped water on the blaze using helicopters. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames, but say the home was a total loss. A Red Flag Warning went into effect for parts of San Diego County early Sunday morning and was extended until Wednesday night at 5 p.m. RELATED: Check today's forecast | San Diego Gas and Electric shuts down power due to fire danger 753

RAMONA (CNS) - Deputies and firefighters came to the rescue Friday when five family members were overcome by heat exhaustion during a sweltering afternoon hike on Cedar Creek Falls Trail in eastern San Diego County. The emergency on the popular footpath northeast of El Capitan Reservoir near Ramona began about 2 p.m., amid temperatures in the mid-90s, according to Cal Fire and the National Weather Service.U.S. Forest Service personnel hiked about a mile and a half down the steep sun-baked trail to reach the exhausted group, which included at least one child. They helped load them onto a pair of sheriff's helicopters that landed in open areas nearby, Cal Fire Capt, Thomas Shoots said. The air crews then dropped off the group -- visitors to the San Diego area from New Jersey -- at a putting green across the street from Cal Fire San Diego Ramona Fire Station 81 on San Vicente Road, where they were met by paramedics. After getting out of the sun and rehydrating, the rescued tourists were given clean bills of health and released, Shoots said.Cedar Creek Falls Trail, along with Three Sisters Falls Trail, can be dangerous to hikers in the summer months and have been closed during heat waves in recent years. 1224

Rashida Tlaib will likely be the first Muslim woman elected to Congress after CNN has projected her to win the Democratic primary in Michigan's 13th District.Tlaib, who beat a crowded field of Democrats to win Tuesday's primary, will not face a Republican opponent in November's general election. She can still be opposed by a write-in candidate, but would be the overwhelming favorite in the deeply Democratic district."The winner of tonight's primary will win the election," Andy Goddeeris, Tlaib's campaign manager, said on Tuesday. "No doubt about it."Tlaib, the eldest daughter of Palestinian immigrants, was one of more than 90 American Muslims running for office this year. In 2008, she was the first Muslim woman ever to serve in Michigan's state legislature. The congressional seat had been held by former Rep. John Conyers before he resigned in December amid allegations of sexual harassment.Tlaib is also running against Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones in a primary for the special election in the district, and the winner will serve from November until the beginning of the next Congress. CNN has not yet called the results for that race. The general election primary Tlaib won is for the full two-year term that begins next January. 1264

Republican Darrell Issa has represented the 49th Congressional District for nearly 20 years, but new signs are pointing to a Democrat taking that House seat in the November election.Republican Diane Harkey is vying for the position against Democrat Mike Levin. The district runs from coastal North San Diego County into Southern Orange County. Speaking to the Republican Party of San Diego County at an event this month, Harkey said some are losing hope in her campaign. President Donald Trump will hold two rallies in the western swing state of Arizona on Monday while Sen. Kamala Harris will stump for her running mate, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in the all-important battleground state of Florida.Polls indicate that Trump has significant ground to make up in the final two weeks in order to win re-election — a steep but not impossible task, considering he did just that in winning the 2016 election.Trump spent Sunday evening in the Las Vegas area after a rally in Nevada — a crucial swing state where recent polls show him trailing Biden by as many as 11 points or as few as 2 points. Trump will then fly to Arizona on Monday, where he will hold rallies in Prescott, a city in the northern part of the state, and in Tucson, in the southern part of the state.Meanwhile, Sen. Kamala Harris will hold voter mobilization events in two of Florida's largest cities — Orlando and Jacksonville. A state infamous for tight races, recent polls show Biden with a slight lead of just a few points. At a drive-in rally in Orlando, supporters honked their car horns as Harris approached the stage. She urged those in attendance to hit the polls as soon as possible, as early in-person voting opened in the state on Monday.Harris bashed Trump on his administration's response to the COVID-19, citing reports that he privately told journalist Bob Woodward in February that he knew the virus was deadly despite his public efforts to "downplay" the crisis. She also told rally-goers that key issues like healthcare and police reform would be on the ballot next month. Trump carried both Arizona and Florida during the 2016 election.Biden himself does not have any public events scheduled for Monday as of 11 a.m. ET.The candidates' rallies come just days before the final presidential debate of the 2020 election cycle. That debate will take place on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET in Nashville. 1927
