Of course, he’d rather have real people in those tables - but can't because of coronavirus restrictions.The restaurant’s normal capacity is about 160, but had to be reduced to 120.That all changed Saturday night - when the Little Italy Association arranged for India Street to be closed to vehicle traffic - allowing restaurants to expand into the street.The extra space meant restaurants, already on razor thin margins, could serve their normal customer load.Barbusa was filled, serving up to 160 patrons.“Covid's not going away for a while, so the more we could get people to eat outdoors the better,” said Marco Li Mandri, the Little Italy Association’s Chief Executive Administrator.Li Mandri says the event was a major success, with good social distancing practices.The association will do it again this Saturday - with even more restaurants open - and could expand it even more in the future.Additionally, the Gaslamp Quarter Association announced on-street dining on Fifth Avenue starting Thursday.The city is also currently weighing a request from the North Park Main Street Association for dining on a stretch of 30th Street near University. 1563

San Diegans living in their cars and recreational vehicles rallied Wednesday against a new city law that places steep restrictions on where they can stay.The City Council passed the emergency restriction in May after residents complained about safety concerns with people living in their cars.The law bans people from living in their vehicles near homes or schools, and blocks them from staying almost everywhere in the city between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m."Homeless could by anybody, it doesn't mean we're criminals," said Robert Ewing, who lives in his R.V. "Just because we ain't got no place to stay. Times are hard."The law went into effect in June, about the same time the city opened a new safe parking lot for R.V's next to SDCCU Stadium in Mission Valley. The lot, however, has largely gone unused. People who live in their vehicles describe concerns over gas mileage, location and a rule requiring them to be out by 7 a.m.Meanwhile, Disability Rights California is challenging the ordinance in court. SAN DIEGO — Authorities are investigating "In My Feelings" dance challenge incident on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Aero Drive that happened on July 20.A driver claims he saw a boy that looked to be 10 or 11 years old jump out of a van, appear to dance and then run after the van as it began to drive off. Samuel Oliver-Bruno found sanctuary in a North Carolina church for nearly a year. Authorities detained him last week after he left the building for an appointment. Dozens of his supporters were arrested, too, as they sang "Amazing Grace" and tried to block immigration officials from taking him to a detention center.Days later, Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported the 47-year-old undocumented immigrant to Mexico, Rev. Cleve May of CityWell United Methodist Church told CNN Friday.Oliver-Bruno was deported Thursday evening to Matamoros, Mexico, May said."Samuel's family, church community, and supporting neighbors are grieved at Samuel being ripped from his family, church and community," officials with the Durham, North Carolina, church said in a statement.Oliver-Bruno had lived in North Carolina with his family for more than two decades. Advocates had appealed to authorities to stop his deportation.An ICE spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.Last week ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said authorities arrested Oliver-Bruno as part of a "targeted enforcement action.""Mr. Oliver-Bruno is a convicted criminal who has received all appropriate legal process under federal law, has no outstanding appeals, and has no legal basis to remain in the US," Cox said.Fearing deportation, Oliver-Bruno had been living at the church since December 2017.ICE generally avoids arrests at "sensitive locations" such as houses of worship.The CityWell United Methodist Church agreed to take him in but the building wasn't ready for him. SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three Camp Pendleton Marines were stabbed during a fight Saturday in San Clemente, a sheriff’s official confirms.The fight happened around 1 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot on the 200 block of El Camino Real.The three Marines, two aged 21 and the other a 23-year-old were involved in a fight with two men and a woman.RELATED: Woman finds Marine Corps ring on Florida's Siesta Key, hopes to find ownerDuring the fight, one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed all three Marines. All three of the men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.The Marines were all assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines at Camp Pendleton.Deputies arrested 24-year-old Alexis Moreno-Aguirre on suspicion of attempted murder.
