SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County and other cities are trying to give businesses and places of worship more options that would allow them to expand into nearby parks, and while some are taking the help, others are finding alternative ways to stay open.Last weekend, in Encinitas, a massive church gathering was organized, with photos of the event posted on social media.At the gathering at Cardiff State Beach, crowds of people were seen singing, praying, and cheering. Mayor Steve Vaus said they’ve already gotten businesses that are using the park space for fitness classes. Of course, social distancing will have to be followed and masks will be required. And they’ll set aside a space for you. And with proper insurance coverage you can use that space for your activities.”County Supervisor Dianne Jacob is looking to expand this option at the county level. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Resources are available throughout San Diego County for victims of domestic violence who believe their situation may turn life threatening.“There’s nothing more tragic than this happening. This is exactly what we never want to see happen again,” said Heather Finlay with the YWCA. Finlay says she was devastated after learning of the mother and her children killed over the weekend. YWCA offers an emergency shelter and transitional housing for parents and families dealing with domestic violence. According to SANDAG, in 2018, more than 17,000 domestic violence incidents were reported in San Diego County. “Leaving an intimate partnership is never easy especially if there are children involved,” said Yvette Lopez-Cooper with the San Diego Family Justice Center. The order doesn’t become active until the abuser is served and made aware of the action. “Many times, these court orders do work and the violent behaviors stops. A safety care plan includes having a packed bag somewhere safe with clothes and copies of personal documents and planning an escape route. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego leaders say they are working to help prepare the county's homeless population to protect themselves from the coronavirus.An outreach team has been busy installing hand washing stations across San Diego to address the virus concerns as it affects those experiencing homelessness. Team members have been helping individuals protect themselves against the virus by passing out hygiene kits that include hand sanitizer, info on symptoms, water, soap, tissues, and hand wipes.Nurses have also started to visit San Diego shelters to help prepare those staying there, especially those suffering from underlying medical conditions or who are older. Leaders say nurses are prepared to be on site to assist with screening potential patients and identify potential housing options if they need to be moved for care. Potential options include motels, government buidlings or facilities, or tents, according to leaders.According to the county, medical professionals are on high alert for any possible local outbreak. Currently, one person has been confirmed to have coronavirus. That patient is said to be doing well. Leaders added that there is no evidence of "community-based transmission" in San Diego.Those who are testing in San Diego County must do so through a primary doctor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego health officials are working with UCSD to notify people who may have been exposed to tuberculosis at the school’s La Jolla campus.According to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, the period of potential exposure was between January 25 through May 15. Those who are known to have been exposed were notified.“Testing is recommended for all those exposed to assure they are not infected, since they may not have symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. "For anyone infected, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent disease.”Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact. Most people who are exposed do not become infected.Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexpected weight loss.No-cost testing will be provided those identified starting May 30 at the campus Student Health Center on Library Walk.The number of annual cases of TB has decreased since the early 90s and has stabilized in recent years. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect in several Mission Valley vehicle burglaries. According to police, three separate vehicles were burglarized in a parking garage on the 2200 block of Camino de la Reina on August 16 between 2 and 5 a.m. Surveillance video captured the suspect using a flashlight to look into several vehicles in the garage. The suspect then broke into the vehicles by shattering windows, taking miscellaneous items, police say. The suspect is described as a white male with a medium build last seen wearing dark colored, framed glasses, a black t-shirt with a white image on the front, blue jeans and black and white tennis shoes.
