SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego International Auto Show announced Wednesday that its 2020 lineup was cancelled.The show was set to take place from December 31 through January 3.“After careful and extensive consideration of the health risks and other factors resulting from COVID-19, the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County will be unable to hold and unfortunately must cancel the San Diego International Auto Show,” the New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County said.The next event is scheduled to take place from December 30, 2021 through January 2, 2022.“As much as we wanted to move forward with the show for all of those who eagerly anticipate it each year, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the pandemic has resulted in a situation where we are unable to hold the show. Of course, the health and safety of all of the workers, exhibitors and attendees who make the auto show such a special event are of vital importance,” said Dean Mansfield, president of the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County, which owns and produces the San Diego International Auto Show. “And given the incredible amount of planning exhibitors must do long in advance of an event of this size and the expenses incurred by all parties, we have endeavored to provide notice of cancellation as soon as reasonably possible,” continued Mansfield. 1346

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three businesses were destroyed last weekend by an act of hate in Mission Hills.It happened at the 'Capello' and 'Beautiful You' salons Saturday morning. Leather chairs were slashed and destroyed. Appliances and flooring were completely flooded after the culprit left the sinks running all night. "They slashed all of the chairs, styling chairs, shampoo chairs, there was detergent everywhere, shampoo everywhere," said 'Beautiful You' manager, Shanell Cedeno.Even an architecture studio one floor down took a hit from the water that went seeping through the salon's ceiling, damaging blueprints and computers. Management thinks the culprit is a former employee of the salon. "Clearly it has to be someone who has a key," said Cedeno. "It's targeted and it was a hateful act someone who clearly dislikes what we're doing here."The damage is estimated at tens of thousands of dollars. "Karma will definitely take its place first before they find them, I'm sure," said Cedeno. "If it's not happening already, it's coming for them."An investigation is underway. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Tommy Bahama is known for its selection of tropical clothes and button-up shirts, but will soon add exotic drinks and dishes to its list in Mission Valley.The retail chain says it's set to open a Tommy Bahama Marlin Bar at Fashion Valley Mall in Spring 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted in favor of a proposal to purchase two city hotels and used them to help hundreds of homeless San Diegans.City leaders want to turn the Residence Inn hotels in Kearny Mesa and Mission Valley to be turned into permanent housing. The proposal was approved in a 9-0 vote.The hotels are price tagged at a combined 6.5 million. The hotels can house 400 people experiencing homelessness; residences of the properties would include people staying at the Convention Center as part of the Operation Shelter to Home, which started in April due to the coronavirus pandemic.Father Joe’s Villages will be providing services for the Kearny Mesa location, while People Assisting the Homeless (PATH) will provide services at the Mission Valley location. The services provided will include mental and behavioral health services, healthcare services, substance use services, and employment assistance.City leaders hope to get people moved in and the services running by the end of the year. 1058

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people were rescued from atop the border wall in San Diego Sunday evening, Border Patrol said Tuesday. According to a news release, agents spotted three people perched on top of the wall near Otay Mesa around midnight January 5. A man and two women reportedly tried to enter the U.S. illegally by climbing the wall amid dense fog. “The trio became stuck at the top of the wet, slippery wall after smugglers abandoned them,” the agency said. RELATED: Woman tries to smuggle meth with 7-year-old in car, Border Patrol saysSan Diego Fire-Rescue also responded and used a ladder truck to rescue the individuals. Border Patrol says all three people, a 36-year-old man, 20-year-old woman and 18-year-old woman, were Mexican Nationals. All three were taken to a Border Patrol station for processing.
