SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sales of previously owned single-family homes in San Diego County dropped 10.5 percent in July compared to June, according to data released Wednesday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors.Month-over-month single-family home sales fell from 2,221 in June to 1,989 in July. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors will meet in closed session Monday to consider taking legal action against the state to prevent potentially sliding back into the most restrictive tier on Tuesday.The Board met Thursday night to discuss their options after Gov. Gavin Newsom rejected a county effort Wednesday to discount the more than 700 positive tests recorded by San Diego State University since the semester began.The supervisors did not make a decision on taking legal action against the state in their meeting Thursday, but Supervisor Greg Cox said the board will meet in closed-session Monday after receiving more information, "to consider any further actions."County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher was vague about the closed meeting Thursday, but urged caution."In general, I believe we should be fighting COVID-19 and not the state of California," he said. "We do not yet know what our case rate will be next Tuesday and will have to evaluate that number in order to understand any possible impact."The county will find out Tuesday if it will slip back to the purple tier of the state's coronavirus reopening roadmap. If so, it would likely shutter indoor operations for restaurants, movie theaters, houses of worship and gyms, limit retail businesses to just 25% capacity and have major impacts on indoor business for most other industries until the county can improve its numbers.Should the county be placed in that tier, it would have to wait a minimum of three weeks before moving back to less restrictive tiers.If state data announced Tuesday shows the county has a case rate higher than 7, it could be moved into the purple tier -- the most restrictive. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County supervisors voted Tuesday for Dianne Jacob to serve as board chairwoman, and approved Greg Cox as vice chairman.By a 5-0 vote, the board also voted in Jim Desmond as the chair pro tem. Desmond, who succeeds Bill Horn as District 5 representative, made a motion for the leadership change based on the board rotation policy.The vote came after outgoing board Chairwoman Kristin Gaspar made a short speech on her time in the leadership role.She cited numerous board accomplishments, including the formation of working groups on the regional homeless problem and county road policies."This year has been incredible," Gaspar said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The California State University Board of Trustees announced the appointment Wednesday of Ellen Neufeldt as president of the San Marcos campus.Neufeldt will become the university's fourth president when she takes over in July. She is currently the vice president of student engagement and enrollment services at Old Dominion University in Virginia.CSU officials had searched for and interviewed candidates for the Cal State San Marcos presidency since November."Dr. Neufeldt has been a visionary leader who has demonstrated a commitment to student success throughout her career," said CSU Trustee and search committee chair Jean Picker Firstenberg. "She brings a wealth of experience, and will serve as an inspirational leader on the campus and in the community."Current CSUSM President Karen Haynes announced last September that she plans to retire in June. Haynes, will leave office as the longest-tenured president in the university's history, helped increase the school's population from 7,000 in 2004 to the current 17,000 and added 15 new buildings and more than 100 academic programs.Neufeldt has held her current role at Old Dominion since 2011, overseeing government relations and marketing and public relations in addition to student engagement and enrollment services. Prior to joining Old Dominion, she also served as the vice president of student affairs at Salisbury University and assistant vice chancellor for student development at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.Neufeldt said she was looking forward to her new post."There has been remarkable growth both on the campus and in the local community and the opportunity for additional growth still remains," Neufeldt said.
