Six Flags says it will pause its paid advertisements on social media platforms to ensure the platforms are devoid of hate speech and harmful content.Six Flags joins numerous companies who have also paused their ads for similar reasons, including Starbucks, Unilever, the European consumer-goods giant; Coca-Cola; Verizon and dozens of smaller companies. The company says it will take time to reassess internal policies and re-evaluate external partners.Last week, facing mounting pressure from advertisers, Facebook said they would flag all “newsworthy” posts from politicians that break its rules, including those from President Donald Trump. CEO Mark Zuckerberg had previously refused to take action against Trump posts suggesting that mail-in ballots will lead to voter fraud. Facebook will also ban false claims intended to discourage voting, such as stories about federal agents checking legal status at polling places. The company also said it is increasing its enforcement capacity to remove false claims about local polling conditions in the 72 hours before the U.S. election. 1091

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The son of the owner of a St. Louis-area soul food restaurant that was the setting for the reality show "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" has been charged in a murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of his nephew four years ago. The show aired for five seasons on the OWN Network, according to Oprah.com.James Timothy Norman, of Jackson, Mississippi, was arrested Tuesday for the March 14, 2016, fatal shooting of his nephew Andre Montgomery, who was gunned down near a park in St. Louis.Norman, the 41-year-old son of Sweetie Pie's owner Robbie Montgomery, faces a federal charge in St. Louis of conspiring to use interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire, resulting in death. Prosecutors say Norman conspired with Terica Ellis, of Memphis, Tennessee, in the killing.According to a news release by the US Attorney's Office Eastern District of Missouri, Norman took out a 0,000 life insurance policy on Montgomery and listed himself as the sole beneficiary.A week after Montgomery's death, Norman contacted the life insurance company in an attempt to collect on the life insurance policy, prosecutors said."Ellis’s phone location information places her in the vicinity of the murder at the time of the homicide," prosecutors said in the press release. "Immediately following Montgomery’s murder, Ellis placed a call to Norman and then began traveling to Memphis, Tennessee." 1432

Senate Democrats believed they had Brett Kavanaugh on the ropes.Christine Blasey Ford had just revealed her identity and was prepared to testify in public, detailing her allegations that Kavanaugh had tried to sexual assault her more than three decades ago. On top of that, a New Yorker article had just revealed that a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, was accusing Kavanaugh of exposing his genitals to her while they were college students. Then came Michael Avenatti. The combative lawyer, who represents Stormy Daniels and has been a ubiquitous presence on cable television, revealed a stunning new allegation: A woman, Julie Swetnick, said she had witnessed the Supreme Court nominee attending more than 10 house parties between 1981 and 1983 where Kavanaugh and his friend, Mark Judge, were present. At some of those parties, she alleged, Kavanaugh was "fondling and grabbing girls without their consent" and, along with others, spiking drinks to force girls to lose their inhibitions. She also alleged that at some parties, boys lined up by a bedroom to "gang-rape" incapacitated girls and claimed those in the lineup included Kavanaugh and Judge. But she did not say Kavanaugh or Judge assaulted the girls, nor did she provide the names of corroborating witnesses.Kavanaugh furiously denied the allegations. 1317
