SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is warning students that they will need to be re-vaccinated against meningitis after Walgreens gave out shots at non-optimal temperature.According to The Daily Aztec, Walgreens recently discovered that the meningococcus B vaccines, given to 350 students on October 5 and 8, weren’t given at the right temperature.The company says its reaching out to students who received them. And now Marian Walter is getting the red carpet treatment for her 106th birthday.Staff at Merrill Gardens at Oceanside say they were shocked to learn Walter was turning 106 because she's one of the most alive, intelligent, and funny people they've ever met.Walter was born in Brooklyn in 1913 and went on to earn a PhD. in Romance Languages and Literature at the University of North Carolina. She speaks seven languages and loved traveling the world. "Italy has just everything in the way of art, you know? It was wonderful. I hated to leave there!" said Walter. Her advice on staying forever-young is to work hard and never stop learning. "Learn as much as you can under any conditions you can do it!" said Walter.As for her birthday wish for the world, "Happiness, decentness. God wants us all to get along with one another. To help one another. To understand one another." Walter has two daughters, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police say a man has died after an officer-involved shooting in the City Heights area on Thursday.SDPD officers responded to reports of a man with a gun in the 4200 block of Menlo Ave. at about 4 p.m., according to SDPD Lt. Matt Dobbs.Police say two women were driving in the area when they were confronted by a man with a handgun."The man manipulated the slide of the gun as if he were loading it and pointed the gun towards the women," according to a SDPD news release. The women drove away and then called 911.Officers arrived to find the man and demanded he drop the gun. 612

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State Students created public service announcements, as part of a competition, to encourage their peers to take precautions and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Thursday the university announced two more students tested positive for the virus, making the total four since move in.The County of San Diego and SDSU will use the PSAs online as part of a new ad campaign, according to the county.The university came to the county amid a spike in cases among young people age 20-29. San Diego County reported 25% of positive cases belong to that age group."We're asking people of your generation of your age group to do the right thing," Dr. Hala Madanat, Director of the School of Public Health at SDSU, said. She led the charge to create the competition."I really was hoping that we would hear from the age group where we were struggling to get adherence to the guidelines and be the ones to encourage their peers," to follow the guidelines she said.One of the three winners, Senior JakeBryan Bonifacio, said he felt an obligation to use his skills to help. "It [the pandemic] is very concerning so that’s why I felt compelled to share this opportunity, share my video."Bonifacio is a Marketing major and already had the tools to create a video. He said he used his own camera and editing software.He said it was most important to create an impact using levity and positivity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Senior citizens in Chula Vista lit up the runway at St. Paul's Plaza, a senior living community.It was the center's first fashion show and eight residents were transformed into models. Each had makeup, hair, and wardrobe provided thanks to Macy's. “Today’s fashion show is all about friendships," said Mary Johnson with the community outreach team. "Friendships are just as important as taking good care of yourself, exercising, and good nutrition. As we get older friendships get even more important."Ladies who modeled said the day made them feel special and confident. “A lot of people when they get to be our age don’t want to do anything different.
