YAOUNDE, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu has met here with Cameroon's Prime Minister Philemon Yang with both vowing to further develop bilateral ties.During their meeting on Wednesday, Hui said since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Cameroon 40 years ago, the peoples of the two countries have stood together through thick and thin and enjoyed the steady development of bilateral ties featured with political mutual trust, frequent exchange of high-level visits and increasing volumes in bilateral trade.Hui said the friendly cooperation ties between China and Cameroon are in the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples and contribute to the common development of the two countries.He said China is willing to work together with Cameroon so as to push the bilateral ties to a new high.Hui also made five-point proposals on developing the China- Cameroon ties which include further consolidating the political foundation of bilateral ties and continuing to understand and support each other on the important issues of core interests and common concern, further expanding economic and trade cooperation with China continuing to encourage its enterprises to cooperate with Cameroon in the sectors, among others, of infrastructure construction and air transportation, boosting agricultural cooperation and explore the ways and means of strengthening and deepening agricultural cooperation between the two countries, enriching the people to people and cultural exchanges of the two countries and considering to sign the new implementation plan of the cultural accords between the two governments at an appropriate time and strengthening the cooperation and coordination between the two sides in international affairs and working together to maintain the interests of the developing countries.For his part, Philemon Yang said in the past 40 years, Cameroon has always regarded China as a friend that can be trusted and the two countries have conducted cooperation in various areas.The prime minister said that his country is pleased that China has kept creating economic miracles, and that China has shared its development achievements with the world so as to realize the win- win.Philemon hoped that China will provide more aid to Cameroon in the sectors of irrigation works and highway construction.After their meeting, Hui and Philemon attended the signing ceremony of four accords including the economic and technology cooperation accord between the two governments.

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday voiced its hope that parties in the north and south Sudan will make continuous efforts for a peaceful, free, transparent and just referenda in Sudan in accordance with the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), and called for international efforts to create favorable conditions for the January referenda.The statement came as Yang Tao, the counsellor of the Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, was addressing an open Security Council meeting on Sudan."We hope the north and south Sudan will keep up the momentum, speed up the preparation for the referenda and ensure that the referenda are conducted in a peaceful, free, transparent and just manner in accordance with the CPA," Yang said.A referendum on self-determination for southern Sudan is scheduled to be conducted on Jan. 9, 2011, as it was stipulated in the CPA inked between north and south Sudan in 2005, which ended a two-decade civil war between the two sides."We call on the international community to create a favorable condition for the referenda and refrain from prejudging the outcome," he said. "No party should take unilateral action. No matter what outcome of the referenda might be, peace and stability in Sudan and the region must be ensured."Inhabitants of the south will vote on Jan. 9, 2011 on whether to secede from Sudan or remain united with the rest of the country. On the same day, residents of Abyei, located in the center of the country, will vote separately on whether to retain Abyei's special administrative status in the north or become part of Bahr el- Ghazal state in the south.Since the Security Council held the high-level open meeting on Sudan last month, the peace process in Sudan continues to register positive progress, Yang noted."Voter registration for the referenda for southern Sudan has been concluded smoothly, we commend the north and south Sudan, the African Union and the UN Secretariat for the efforts to this end," he said."Maintaining the peace, stability and development in Sudan is in the interest of the Sudanese people, and it is also conducive to the peace and development in the region and in the African continent," Yang said."China hopes that the north and south will cherish the peace that was hard to come by, and continue their equal dialogue and consultation in order to reach an early agreement on the border demarcation, Abyei and wealth sharing and other outstanding issues, " he said. "This is of great significance to the maintenance of the long-term peace and stability in Sudan and the region."

CHENGDU, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-eight miners were trapped in a colliery flood in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Sunday, the local safety watchdog said.The accident happened at 11 a.m. in Weiyuan County of Neijiang City.Altogether 41 miners were working underground when a pit of Batian Coal Mine was flooded. Thirteen of them escaped, said Lin Shucheng, chief of the provincial work safety bureau.He said rescuers had begun pumping flood water from the pit early in the afternoon. BEIJING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese lawmakers have heard a series of the State Council's reports on the development of ethnic minorities, and regarding the country's health care reform and service industry, at a meeting Wednesday during the bimonthly session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature.The meeting was presided over by Ismail Tiliwaldi, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.A total of 150 NPC Standing Committee members, including Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, as well as other vice chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee attended the meeting.Commissioned by the State Council, Yang Jing, minister in charge of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, said in a report to the NPC Standing Committee that the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the central government's supports in policy, planning and funding for the ethnic minority groups and regions had yielded remarkable achievements in the country's economic and social development.In the report, Yang also pledged that the government would continue to step up infrastructure development in ethnic minority regions and spend more on education, medical services and poverty relief.Zhang Ping, director of the National Development and Reform Commission, delivered a report on deepening health care reform at the meeting.The reform had achieved various levels of progress in promotion of medical insurance, grassroots medical services and equal access of health care services for the public, Zhang said.Zhang noted that the government would further expand the coverage of the medical insurance system, intensify supervision over medical service providers and make more progress in the reform of the country's publicly-owned hospitals.Zhang also delivered a report on accelerating the development of the country's secondary industries. China's service industry has been experiencing rapid growth from 2006 to 2010 with an increase in its competitiveness, Zhang said.The service industry has been making increasing contributions to the country's job market, as well, Zhang said.However, Zhang commented that it still lags behind the country's overall development, and could not meet the demand of the country's economic and social development.In his report, Zhang urged creating a favorable policy and system environment for the development of the country's service industry.The meeting also reviewed a written report about Wu Bangguo's visit to Cambodia, Indonesia and Thailand.Also on Wednesday, a meeting of the chairman and vice-chairpersons of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over by Wu Bangguo, has decided to put the draft agenda of the fourth plenary meeting of the 11th NPC to the vote at the ongoing NPC Standing Committee session.The 18th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th NPC runs from Dec.20 to 25.
