SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — We all know the rent is too high in San Diego and spending data from housing website HotPads highlights the lengths to which San Diegans are reaching into their wallets.San Diego renters spent about .2 billion on housing in the last year, that's 9 million more than in 2017, HotPad's data reports. It's enough to put San Diego third in the state, as San Francisco locals shelled out billion and Los Angeles residents paid a staggering .4 billion in 2018 for housing. See, silver lining, right?RELATED: Making It in San Diego: San Diego's housing inventory sees massive increaseWhile we try to remain positive, it's admittedly difficult when rent in San Diego saw a 4.8 percent jump from 2017, bringing the medium rent in town to ,720 a month this year. That also places San Diego third in California for that category, behind Sacramento (5.8 percent increase) and Riverside (5.7 percent increase).About 6,000 more households are being rented as well this year, bringing that number to 530,000 San Diego households. The numbers are a stark reminder of the continuing cost of housing in San Diego and throughout the state.A Trulia report published Thursday pointed out that despite inventory gains in San Diego, prices continue to rise and outpace wage growth. 1298

San Diego (KGTV)- An Escondido family discovers new challenges in caring for their newborn diagnosed with Spina Bifida. He's finally home after staying in the hospital for months. The parents share the biggest hurdle is his continued care during the Pandemic. In the first three months of his life, Baby Devin has experienced eight surgeries. Spina Bifida is a condition where his spine didn't fully close while in the womb."Devin is at a small percentage where he has Symptomatic Chiari, where it affects his ability to breath and swallow," says dad Jon Hoy.Now at five months, little Devin is home from the hospital with his parents and three brothers, but he requires 24-hour medical care."He has a trache in his throat, and then he has a ventilator that helps him breathe," says Hoy. "The same ventilators that have become so crucial during COVID-19. He has G-tube to help him eat in his stomach."Parents Jon and Erin Hoy say finding in-home care has been tough."These nurses need to be pediatric certified. They need to be trache certified and vent certified," says Mom Erin Hoy. "His level of acuity has just created a big barrier for finding nurses."Due to COVID-19, there is an added level of caution for those who are around Baby Devin. Hoy says during her search for adequate help, she's learned, "there's a significant difference or pay difference between nurses in a hospital or a facility compared to nurses in home."Hoy says they are still in need of nurses to help Devin around the clock, but they are grateful for the ones that have come in so far."There's always light that comes if you just hold on. We've experienced so much joy in the last seven days of him coming home."Jon and Erin say they are willing to connect with anyone who may be going through a similar pregnancy or experience. You can reach out to them via Facebook. 1855

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two more women have come out to share their stories of clergy child sex abuse publicly. Cousins Judith Louise-Worachek and Cathie Ray say the abuse happened decades ago while attending school at St. Jude in Southcrest. Each alleges they were abused multiple times by Priest Gregory Sheridan, who is named on a Diocese of San Diego list of priests with credible allegations against them. "Inevitably we would end up in his bedroom with me on his lap, it didn't feel right, but you're not going to talk bad about a priest to your parent," said Ray.RELATED: San Diego woman accuses Monsignor of sexual abuse, asks for other victims to come forwardFor many years neither of the women knew the other had also been abused."We made an agreement through the years that we would not ever tell our parents, our grandmother, especially our grandmother," said Ray.The women said their family members adored the priest, and they did not want to cause their family pain, deciding to wait to share the story until after those loved ones passed away."Now it's time to come forward and speak my truth and help others," said Louise-Worachek. "I want my name known. That Sheridan abused me, sexually abused me, and violated me."The Diocese provided this statement to 10News: 1281
