SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s largest wholesale produce supplier says local restaurants would feel the effects of a possible border shutdown. Specialty Produce delivers to more than 700 San Diego restaurants and hotels seven days a week. 40 to 50 percent of the company’s produce comes from Mexico. If supplies aren’t available, prices will go up, according to owner Bob Harrington. “It’s a really bad idea really bad not to trade with Mexico,” Harrington says. Harrington sells 1,200 pounds of Mexican-grown basil a week in San Diego. If he bought the herb in the United States, the price would double. The cost of pineapples would go up 40 percent, Harrington estimates. Items like cucumbers, Roma tomatoes, strawberries, asparagus, and limes would be difficult to find without enough supply to meet the demand. “You won't get fresh limes at restaurants anymore. When you go get margarita you won't have a fresh lime in it.” “It may push restaurants over the edge. Christ Church Denver offers a weeklong vacation bible school for free, and it’s open to any family, regardless of whether they attend church.“We pull a lot of people form the community that’s not just our church, because we offer our program for free,” says Christ Church’s Tammie Sawicki.And FREE is a big selling point to working parents.“Childcare in Denver is relatively expensive,” a mom says as she dropped her kids off. “And summer activities and camps can add up, especially if you have two children.”Lauren Hipp specializes in early learning for the non-profit advocacy group Mom’s Rising. Mineral County Sheriff Randy Adams stated that 'Mineral County Deputies supported FBI agents by obtaining a search warrant for a unit in a triplex located in at Walker Lake. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A San Marcos family is dealing with an unbearable loss. The Houghton family was involved in a horrific crash that killed their 13-year-old son, Bryce, Saturday night on the 405 in Orange County. The family of five was headed to San Luis Obispo to visit relatives, according to Michael Houghton. Their 17-year-old daughter was driving, when their van began to slow down. Michael says it seemed like it was running out of gas. It stopped in the HOV lane. Michael, his wife, and three kids decided to stay in the van buckled up and call for help. While they waited for 911 and a tow truck, CHP says a pickup truck slammed into the van. Another vehicle hit the pickup truck after the initial crash. The CHP arrested the driver of the pickup truck on suspicion of DUI. Officers said the driver of the pickup had major injuries. Four people in the third vehicle received minor injuries. Michael described his youngest son as a jovial person who loved to make people smile. “Short in stature but big in personality,” Michael said. “One of the things he loved the most was to make people happy.” The Houghton’s other two children, 15-year-old Mason, and 17-year-old Carissa, received minor injuries, though Mason will be on crutches, according to his dad. Michael’s wife, Gael, needed surgery. Michael received injuries to the back of his head, and injuries to his eye that had previously undergone a procedure. The family was very involved with Anthem Church in Vista, as well as Bread of Life Rescue Mission in Oceanside. The Houghtons had organized an event for the homeless on the Saturday before the crash. Bryce was a student at San Elijo Middle School. Mason and Carissa go to San Marcos High School. There is a GoFundMe page started for the family. 1799
