A federal appeals court on Friday overturned the death sentence of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The three-judge panel of the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston issued the decision more than six months after arguments were heard in the case. A couple of Las Vegas newlyweds made an extremely selfless move by asking their wedding guests to donate to their favorite animal rescue organization in lieu of wedding gifts.Jessica Rauch and Tony Lopez feel fortunate they were able to make a decision like this."We're very blessed to have a lot of the things that we would already need in life," said Rauch.They're also both dog lovers."We both great up with dogs and love animals very much."They decided to put their heads together and figure out how they could give back on their wedding day."Both of us really like to give back and volunteer for nonprofits and we like to live our lives in a charitable way so we thought hey what better tribute than to encourage our friends and family, if they want to give us a gift, to donate to A Home 4 Spot," said Rauch.The couple recently adopted their two dogs from A Home 4 Spot?and loves the way they operate."We didn't know much about them but they were this amazing group of volunteers foster the puppies in their homes and when we met them, and the volunteers, and then of course they introduced us to Shorty, we fell in love with the whole operation."All the pieces came together and donating to their cause was what the couple wanted to do."Our friends and family were so generous and really stepped up to the plate."The couple was able to write a check for ,000 to the animal rescue group."Everything matters and so any donation that they receive goes to food or leashes or anything they need to keep the operation running."Rauch says the rescue group was ecstatic."(They were) over the moon thrilled and we couldn't be happier that that was the decision that we made."Also, instead of having their wedding party hold flowers to walk down the aisle, each member carried a shelter dog instead. 1806

A decline in Chevrolet Cruze sales is what General Motors officials say is to blame for an employee reduction at the Lordstown, Ohio plant. Up to 1,500 workers could be affected by layoffs this summer.According to WKBN-TV, the plant will move to a one-shift schedule on June 18. Between 1,000 to 1,500 workers will remain on the shift. GM said sales are to blame for the change, WKBN-TV reports, and is offering affected employees a ,000 payout.Sen. Sherrod Brown called on GM to use tax cuts the company received to keep jobs in Ohio.“GM cannot pocket billions of dollars in tax cuts and turn around and fire Ohio workers whose livelihoods depend on these jobs,” Brown said. “I expect GM to tell Ohioans immediately how they plan to use their tax windfall to keep Ohioans in their jobs.”The Lordstown GM plant is the largest employer in Trumbull County. 910

A company is promising to pay San Diegans cash for cutting their energy use when demand is at its peak.The payouts can add to hundreds of dollars per year.But getting that cash means following some very specific instructions, and isn't as simple as turning off your air conditioning. The company is called OhmConnect, which has a contract with San Diego Gas & Electric.San Diegans who sign up let OhmConnect tap into their smart meters. They will then get a text message alerting them to a specific hour when they should cut their energy use - turn off air conditioning, lights, chargers, surge protectors, and avoid opening the fridge and freezer. OhmConnect suggests people do something outside during that time. "Everyone is looking to save a buck, so I was like why not, times are tough?" said Patrick Copley, of Serra Mesa, who signed up Monday. Curtis Tongue, a spokesman for OhmConnect, said the company has ramped up its advertising over the past few months. He said OhmConnect sells the reduced energy use to SDG&E, takes a cut, and passes on the rest to the participant in terms of points. Each point is worth a penny, and can be cashed out to Paypal once a person reaches 1,000 points, worth . OhmConnect says a person who participates two to three times a week can earn between 0 and 0 over a year. An SDG&E spokesman noted that customers are still responsible for paying their bill. A church choir in Madison, Tennessee is singing hymns to parishioners who are unable to safely leave the house during the pandemic.The choir at City Road Chapel United Methodist Church is visiting homes on Wednesday nights."Whether there are three of us or five or 10 of us, it is just a wonderful thing to be able to do," said Mary Lou Markham, a member of the choir.Markham said the group began singing together in the church parking lot a few weeks before this started."I said 'can't we at least meet in the parking lot and sing to the Lord?' So for two weeks, we sang in the church parking lot, a long way away..." she said.When a member of the choir broke his arms, the group visited and preformed for him outside his rehab facility. From there, they began visiting other parishioners who were cooped up inside."It has been unbelievable," said Brian Hanson. "The response has been tremendous and we have got as much of the blessing out of it as the people we've sung for."Brian Hanson is the director of music at City Road Chapel."I think music connects with the soul, mind, and spirit it's just something that's in people," Hanson said.On a recent Wednesday, the group sang for Evelyn McDowell at her home. The 92-year-old has been a member of the church since 1950."I've missed church and this was just a wonderful blessing," said McDowell."I couldn't go out much.
