With NFL preseason games scheduled to be held next month, several outlets are reporting that the NFL will reduce the number of preseason games teams play from four to two.Pro Football Talk and ESPN reported the change Wednesday afternoon, but the league has not made an official announcement.Pro Football Talk said that the league decided to eliminate Week Nos. 1 and 4 of the preseason. The report says that in addition to teams not wanting to travel large numbers of personnel amid a pandemic, with a lack of offseason workouts, coaches indicated a preference to hold extra practices instead of preparing for exhibitions.The length of the preseason has been considered too long by some in the past, as most teams opt to play reserves for the fourth and final game of the preseason. With a mask covering his face and his fingers playing a disinfected piano, musician Purnell Steen and his band, Le Jazz Machine, are back to doing what they love: playing music in front of a live audience, but now from a regulated distance.“It is a new learning experience for all us,” Steen said.After being shut down for months due to coronavirus concerns, Steen is back on his home stage at Dazzle in downtown Denver, one of the top 100 jazz bars in the world.“For the entire month of June, we did as much as much revenue as we used to do on a good Saturday,” said Matt Ruff, Dazzle general manager.Ruff says new safety guidelines that allow live music venues like his to operate are impacting his bottom line.“Capacity went from 50 to 100 people,” he said. “But it’s still 6-foot distancing between tables and the closest table to the stage has to be 25 feet away from the stage.”Though he’s thankful to reopen, Ruff is also questioning some of those safety measures, like no longer allowing wind instruments to be played on stage.“I think that’s based on faulty information,” he said. "People think that horns project something, but the science is just not there.”Some scientists, however, believe those brass instruments could hit a sour note when it comes to health.“You’re blowing from the lungs, so they are respiratory droplets and that’s the primary means by which this virus is transmitted,” said Sheryl Zajdowicz, Ph.D., a biology professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver.This infectious disease specialist says while live music could be good for the soul, social distancing could be even better for one’s health.“When you’re at a music venue, you’re kind of up against each other,” she said. “It’s going to be very challenging to limit that from happening.”That’s where Live Nation comes in.This entertainment group is now promoting “Live from the Drive-In,” a new live music experience where people can watch and listen to top artists from their own individual tailgate zones at outdoor concerts across the country.Back at Dazzle, fans say live music is what they need during this pandemic.And while the new normal on stage could be confining for artists, they believe live music will help calm emotions as the virus moves towards a crescendo.“If we can bring a few moments of joy to somebody than we have performed our mission,” Steen said. 2376

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Last Friday was a day for the history books at the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue Station 65.For the first time, it was staffed by a shift consisting of all women."Station 65 on that day, from the top down, captain, driver, firefighter, the rescue lieutenant, the paramedic, every single person was female that day on that shift," Deputy Chief James Ippolito said.The proof is in the picture, which featured Fire Medic Kelsey Krzywada side by side with her female colleagues. She is the youngest woman in the photo, whose ages range from 20 to 50. She said it didn't take her long to find her calling"I was always interested in the medical field so medical field and something super active to help people it seemed like a perfect fit," Krzywada said.She admits that in a male-dominated field, the road wasn't easy."Fire school was definitely really hard. I'm always the smallest one, smallest height, smallest weight. It's hard to keep up with the boys. I trained as hard as I could," Krzywada said.Lucky for her, there were other women before her, like Rescue Lt. Krystyna Krakowski, to help pave the way.Krakowski understood the impact of an all-female crew, even if for one shift. "We just thought women empowerment, girl power, how fun to have five women at the same station. It was a great day," Krakowski said.However, it was also a sad day after the death of a gender equality icon."It also happened on a day that Justice Ginsburg passed away as well," Ippolito said.As Ginsburg famously said, "Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you."According to Krakowski, it's already working for people like her daughter: a college student and a member of the Palm Beach Ocean Rescue."Women can do the same thing men can do," said Krakowski. WISCONSIN — An update on the expected re-entry of China's old Tiangong-1 space station has been announced.The space station was initially launched in September 2011. An official Chinese statement declared that Tiangong-1 terminated its data service on March 21, 2016. Since the Chinese government has lost control of the station, it's hard to predict where and when it will fall.The European Space Agency predicts the space station will fall back to Earth between March 30 and April 6, while research organization Aerospace predicts a re-entry on April 1, give or take 4 days.Aerospace says it is much easier to predict a re-entry time than a location. This explains the wide scope of possible re-entry zones, which both Aerospace and other organizations predict will be between 43 degrees North and 43 degrees South latitudes. 855

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Authorities say a retired firefighter who was upset with a mask ordinance in the city of Wichita, Kansas, has been arrested on suspicion of threatening to kidnap and kill the mayor.The Wichita Eagle reports that police say the 59-year-old suspect could face a charge of criminal threat.Democratic Mayor Brandon Whipple said someone had read him text messages received by another city official that asked about the mayor’s address and threatened his life.Whipple says the suspect talked about tyranny in the messages and was upset about the mask mandates and not being able to see his mother because of coronavirus restrictions.“He said he was going to kidnap me and slash my throat and he needed my address because I needed to see the hangman — me and everyone who, something about tyranny,” said Whipple.The Eagle reports that the mayor has been an online target of anti-mask activists after he pushed for a citywide mask requirement to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.Whipple says he will now have an increased security presence around his home to protect him and his family.The Wichita Police Department told The Eagle that it’s investigating the threats and that no other local officials are believed to have been targeted at this time.This incident comes after law enforcement arrested several men who authorities say plotted to kidnap Michigan Gov.
