SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Seattle hiker arrived in San Diego over the weekend, where he'll begin a 2,600-mile trek to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer's disease.Toby Gallier's family was first impacted by the disease four years ago when his mom's partner was diagnosed. Gallier's seen the toll it takes on both patient and caregiver.Gallier will be hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a grueling five-month trek that will take him through desert, forest and mountains.He's raising money for "The Longest Day" fundraiser through the Alzheimer's Association - you can donate here.You can also follow along on his journey here, Gallier will be posting blog updates whenever he can find WiFi.On Monday the San Diego/Imperial Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association greeted and thanked Gallier for his commitment to this cause. 827

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego woman is searching for the hero who saved her from drowning after a cliff dive at Sunset Cliffs.“I think the ocean really taught me a lesson that day. It really did,” Justice Arreguin said.It happened a week ago Sunday.Arreguin was with some friends when she jumped off the cliff into the water. The first jump was fine, she said. But when she jumped the second time, it almost killed her.The big waves pulled her under and tossed her around. She couldn't breathe.“Then this guy he just popped out of nowhere and he was like 'you have to stay calm. Try to stay calm,'" Arreguin said. "And so I did and after a while, he jumped in the water when it was safe."The man pulled justice out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man was walking downtown to his apartment with a pizza Thanksgiving Day, about to spend the evening alone, when he met a gentleman who asked for a slice.The two sat down, shared the pizza and a conversation. The man who bought the pizza, Broc Costa, said the conversation with the homeless man was enlightening. He learned the man was a veteran trying to get mental health services in California, splitting his time between San Diego and Arizona where his wife and kids live.He said it was too expensive to live or buy a hotel room here so he was on the street. "To be blunt, we're all about one or two paychecks away from being in the same situation," Costa said.So next year he bought 5 pizzas to hand out, the next 20 and the year after that, 20 more.This tradition started 7 years ago.Now Costa's raising money and sending volunteers across the county to deliver pizzas to homeless where they reside."It would be really cool for him to see what he started, because he's just as important in this as I was," Costa said he wishes him the best.This year they're at Petco Park's tailgate parking lot near the pedestrian bridge, in Escondido and Pacific Beach delivering more than 50 pizzas and serving 500 to 1,000, according to Costa. 1304

She told 10News that postal work runs in her family and her dad was the very first postal carrier in University City.That's where the beloved employee has spent the last 35 years of her career. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A series of closures are set for Interstate 5 throughout June and possibly into July for Mid-Coast trolley construction.SANDAG says the closures will allow crews to remove and install temporary wooden structures to support the trolley bridge, also called falsework. The falsework currently on Voigt Drive will be removed and installed just south of Nobel Drive to support a second trolley overcrossing. Both trolley overcrossings will span the I-5, SANDAG says.A full closure of southbound I-5 lanes will start on Sunday, June 9, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night Sunday through Thursday, and will run through Friday, June 28. The closure covers I-5/I-805 interchange to La Jolla Colony Dr. Detours will be set up for motorists to use southbound I-805 and westbound State Route 52 in place of the stretch of I-5.Once the southbound closure is complete, a full northbound closure will be needed.The Mid-Coast trolley will eventually extend the Blue Line trolley from Old Town Transit Center to the UC San Diego area. Trolley service is expected to begin in late 2021. 1096
