The Wisconsin Supreme Court said Thursday it will not hear President Donald Trump's lawsuit, which had been requested to overturn election results in two Wisconsin counties. The lawsuit sought to overturn 200,000 ballots in Wisconsin. The decision from the Supreme Court comes just days after the Wisconsin Election Commission officially declared Joe Biden as the winner of Wisconsin."What we had is an abuse of the absentee process, dramatically in Dane and Milwaukee County,” said Jim Troupis, attorney for the Trump campaign. The lawsuit specifically focused on absentee ballots that were cast both through the mail and in person. The suit aimed to dismiss absentee ballots where the clerks' offices "inserted missing information,” people cast ballots "claiming Indefinite Confinement status" even if they "no longer qualified,” and absentee ballots "improperly cast or received at ‘Democracy in the Park’ events,” which were held in Madison.Governor Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Election Commission have said the Trump Administration is required to file the lawsuit in circuit court, not the state Supreme Court. This story was originally published by Julia Marshall at WTMJ. 1183

The Women’s National Basketball Association plans to pay respect to Vanessa Guillen in their upcoming 2020 season. The WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) announced the launch of a new platform, The Justice Movement, and the creation of the WNBA/WNBPA Social Justice Council. The mission of the Social Justice Council is to be a driving force of necessary and continuing conversations about race, voting rights, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and gun control amongst other important societal issues. The WNBA will begin its season in late July with a weekend of competition centered around the Black Lives Matter movement, during which teams will wear special uniforms to seek justice for the women and girls, including Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor, Vanessa Guillen and many more who have been the forgotten victims of police brutality and racial violence.Throughout the season, players will wear Nike-branded warm-up shirts that display “Black Lives Matter” on the front.Additionally, “Say Her Name” will adorn the back of the shirts. “Black Lives Matter” will also be prominently displayed on courts during games.KXXV first reported this story. 1170

The White House is again rejecting calls for a national mask-wearing mandate.White House chief of staff Mark Meadows says in an appearance on “Fox and Friends” Monday morning that the president sees the issue as a “state-to-state” matter. He says that, “certainly a national mandate is not in order” and that “we’re allowing our local governors and our local mayors to weigh in on that.”New Jersey’s Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy has said he’d like to see a national strategy on the coronavirus, including a mask requirement. He says his state is seeing “small spikes in reinfection” from residents coming back from Florida, South Carolina and other virus hotspots, and the U.S. is “as strong as our weakest link right now.”Vice President Mike Pence has also rejected the idea of a national mandate, saying that’s up to governors and local health officials. 862

The wife of a Marine veteran self-deported to Mexico on Thursday rather than be arrested by immigration officials. The Associated Press reports that Alejandra Juarez and her eight-year-old daughter boarded a plane at Orlando International Airport Thursday after a teary goodbye with her husband and 16-year-old daughter.Jaurez had been told earlier this week that she would be deported Aug. 3 after Rep. Darren Soto could not pass legislation to keep Jaurez in the US.In a statement issued to CNN earlier this week, ICE says "Juarez was initially apprehended and removed from the country after attempting to enter illegally from Mexico in 1998. He said she later illegally re-entered the United States after being removed — which is a felony." 765

The Supreme Court is allowing Florida to enforce a law that bars ex-felons from voting who still owe court fees or fines.Thursday’s decision by the Supreme Court denied the request in front of them to lift the order of lower court rulings. Their decision allows the Florida law to move forward without declaring the law to be unconstitutional or limit ongoing court challenges.Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan dissented."This Court's order prevents thousands of otherwise eligible voters from participating in Florida's primary election simply because they are poor," Sotomayor wrote in the dissent."This Court's inaction continues a trend of condoning (disenfranchisement)," she added. The law is expected to impact roughly 1.4 million people in Florida. Amendment 4, passed by Florida voters in 2018, allowed most ex-felons to register to vote, with exceptions for those convicted of certain crimes. In 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law additions to Amendment 4 that required fines, fees and restitution be paid first before ex-felons could register to vote. Thursday's decision from the Supreme Court comes just days before the voter registration deadline in Florida. The state's primary election is scheduled for August 18 and voters must register by July 20. 1320
