BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chen Jian, Chinese vice Commerce Minister said here on Saturday that the country would provide better development conditions for foreign multinational corporations (MNCs).     "China would ramp up efforts to create better legal protection, policy support, market environment and growth opportunities for them," Chen said at the 2nd International CEO Roundtable of Chinese and Foreign MNCs.     He said global investors' confidence would not recover in a short period of time amid the financial turmoil and predicted the combined foreign direct investment (FDI) globally could possibly decrease by 10 to 30 percent.     Figures revealed that FDI in China expanded by 35.06 percent in the first 10 months year on year to 81.1 billion U.S. dollars.     However, FDI in China stood at 6.72 billion U.S. dollars last month, down by 2.02 percent year on year. TAIPEI, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's ruling Kuomintang (KMT) honorary chairman Lien Chan said Tuesday that the new agreements between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan "earn a real applause" and could benefit both sides.     Lien held a banquet in Taipei to welcome the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) president Chen Yunlin and his delegation.     "From a historical perspective, Chen's visit realizes a decade-old wish of President Wang Daohan and Chairman Koo Chen-fu, announces the establishment of an institutionalized consultation channel, and strengthens the base of cross-Straits mutual development and mutual benefits, " Lien said in his address.     In April 1993, late ARATS President Wang and Koo, late chairman of Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), held a historic "Wang-Koo meeting" in Singapore. It was the first public meeting between leaders of the two organizations.     Lien said Chen's current visit also symbolized a great step toward establishing mutual trust and achieving a win-win situation.     Chen and SEF chairman Chiang Pin-kung signed agreements on direct shipping and flights, postal services and food safety during their first summit in Taipei on Tuesday.     The agreements were expected to end a situation that has prevailed since 1949, which required air and sea movements between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan to go through a third place. LIMA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday gave a brief outline of the country's future development to the business community of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).     Addressing the APEC Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Summit, Hu said China will continue to follow the Scientific Outlook on Development by putting people first and making development comprehensive, balanced and sustainable.     "We will unswervingly pursue reform, improve the socialist market economy and build systems and institutions that are dynamic, efficient, more open and conducive to scientific development," Hu said.     China will follow a new path of industrialization with Chinese characteristics and transform the mode of economic growth, he said. BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China called on Vietnam for cooperation in the South China Sea to discover ways to address bilateral disputes over the region.     In a meeting here with visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Wednesday, Chinese President Hu Jintao proposed the two neighboring countries always keep the overall situation of the bilateral relations in mind and make efforts to strengthen bilateral efforts and properly settle the issues concerning the South China Sea.     "We should make it (South China Sea) a place of peace, cooperation and friendship," Hu said.     Nguyen said Vietnam would insist on the negotiation for the peaceful and lasting resolution of the issue and reduce the differences based on mutual trust, respect and understanding.
