CHICAGO, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met here Friday with Chicago Mayor Richard M. JERUSALEM, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday met with visiting delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by Zhang Gaoli, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Party chief of China's Tianjin municipality.Lieberman, hailing the long-standing friendship and continuously deepened cooperation between the Israeli and Chinese people, said that Israeli government has encouraged all of its major political parties to build friendly relationship with the CPC, and endeavored to promote practical bilateral cooperation in new fields and with new methods.He spoke highly of China's achievements in exploring the country's development methods according to its own circumstances and expressed hope to expand exchanges with China in terms of development experience.Zhang said that since China and Israel established the diplomatic relationship in 1992, the bilateral relations between the two countries have entered a new stage, with the cooperation and exchanges in various fields booming, especially in culture, trade and tourism.He said that China is willing to enhance mutual political trust between the two sides, and promote the friendly cooperation to a higher level.The CPC delegation, who arrived in Israel on Nov. 6, met with Israeli President Shimon Peres on Sunday.

BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Friday responded to Japan's new defense guidelines, saying China had no intention of threatening anybody.Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu made the remarks when responding to a question on the subject."A certain country has no right to act as a representative of the international community and make irresponsible remarks on China's development," she said.Japan adopted the National Defence Programme Guidelines Friday. Media reports said the guidelines claimed China's military development and lack of transparency were matters of concern to the region and international community, and urged nations to encourage China to act responsibly.China unswervingly follows the path of peaceful development, and its defense policy is defensive in nature, Jiang said, adding that China poses no threat to anybody."The fact is that China's development since its reform and opening up, has brought huge opportunities of common prosperity to the world, including Japan," Jiang said.
TIANJIN, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A subway train of six cars being assembled rolled off a production line Friday at a production base in north China's Tianjin Municipality, according to China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation (CSR).The subway train is the first of the kind ever produced at the CSR Tianjin Industrial Park, said CSR's chairman, Zhao Xiaogang.The train, designed to run at a speed of 80 km per hour, has a holding capacity of 1,800 passengers. It will will be used in Tianjin's Subway Line 3, which will begin service in 2011.The production base, with an initial investment of 3 billion yuan (455 million U.S. dollars), can produce 100 to 200 trains a year. It will attain a capacity of producing 500 trains annually in the next five years, according to Zhao.Analysts say the base's first product marked Tianjin's efforts to encourage the development of modern and more advanced industries in the city.The production base will boost the development of emerging industries in Tianjin and contribute to China's economic transformation, Zhao said.CSR, a state-owned company with more than 80,000 employees, produces about 70 percent of all high-speed trains China.
ISLAMABAD, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- China and Pakistan signed a number of trade deals worth about 10 billion U.S. dollars, visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Saturday.Addressing the China-Pakistan Business Cooperation Summit in Islamabad, Wen said the deals reflected the huge potential for expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation.The two sides inked some 20 trade deals during Wen's visit covering projects in the sectors of new energy, agriculture, cotton yarn and non-ferrous metal imports.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao speaks during the Pakistan-China Business Cooperation Summit in Islamabad, Pakistan, Dec. 18, 2010. The China-Pakistan trade volume only accounted for one-tenth of Pakistan's overall foreign trade, he said, voicing his hope that the two-way trade could top 10 billion dollars as soon as possible.With regard to trade imbalance, Wen said China understood the concern of Pakistan on the imbalance, and has taken measures to address the issue."China is ready to work closely with Pakistan to push forward the building of a bilateral free trade area in an all-round way, and gradually grant zero-tariff status to more Pakistani products," he said.He vowed to send a trade and investment promotion delegation to Pakistan for purchase purposes at an appropriate time, hold commodity fairs for South Asian countries, and offer favorable terms for Pakistani products.Calling trade cooperation a link for the China-Pakistan cooperation, Wen said the bilateral trade has witnessed remarkable growth and benefited both peoples.Bilateral trade volume increased to 6.8 billion dollars in 2009 from 1 billion dollars in 2000.Though affected by the global financial crisis and natural disasters, the two-way trade in the first 10 months of 2010 reached the total volume of 2009, an increase of 27 percent over the same period of last year, Wen said.
