SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported 625 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, the region's second-highest daily increase of cases reported by officials.San Diego County's new cases reported a 6% positive rate out of 10,290 tests. Of the county's cases, 2,180 (9.4%) have needed hospitalization. Health officials add that 2.5% of all cases and 26% of hospitalized cases have been moved to the ICU.An additional six deaths due to COVID-19 were also reported, the county said. The deaths occurred between July 8 and July 16, and included four women and two men whose ages ranged from 60 to mid-90s. All had existing chronic conditions, the county said. San Diego placed 11th among 50 other cities around the U.S., but America's Finest City wasn't alone. Los Angeles was ranked 2nd on the list. The company says all areas of the U.S. are prone to subterranean termites, but Pacific U.S. and coastal regions of the Southeast also have the threat of drywood termites. Subterranean termites swarm in the spring and summer while drywood termites usually swam in the late summer and fall. Orkin says termites find their way into homes because urbanization leaves fewer dead trees laying around. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are searching for a man with autism and epilepsy who hasn't been seen since he left home Sunday.Guillermo Gradilla has a history of running away, his family said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County is working to make it easier for San Diegans to get flu shots, which health officials say is especially important this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.On Thursday, local leaders kicked off efforts to promote flu vaccinations. Over the course of the next few weeks, they will be hosting pop-up clinics across the county where people can get free flu shots.The pop-up clinics are designed for those who don’t have insurance or those who can’t get the vaccine from their health care provider or pharmacy.Valentina Christiansen came to one of the clinics to get flu shots for her family. She said, “I think it’s great because I tried to go through our health plan and that’s over a month out, and we wanted to get it sooner. We heard about the opportunity and we’re excited to be able to do that.”Dr. Denise Foster, chief nursing officer for the county, said getting the flu vaccine can also help in the battle against the coronavirus. Keeping flu patients out of the hospital frees up beds and resources for those fighting COVID-19.“The flu vaccine can prevent the flu and prevent people from seeking health care services that might be needed right now connected to the pandemic,” Foster said.Foster added there are more people that have gotten the flu vaccine this year in comparison to this same time last year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County leaders Monday announced proposals that would crack down on vaping amid vaping-related illness and death throughout the U.S. At the Monday news conference, County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Nathan Fletcher proposed a ban on the sale and distribution of flavored tobacco products and e-cigarettes. The recommendations will come to go to the board on October 15 and, if the board follows up with approval, the rules would take effect in the county’s unincorporated area. “Vaping-related illnesses are a grave concern and we must take local action to address this fast-growing public health crisis,” said Jacob, chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors.“Teenagers and young adults have been the hardest hit, and we must stand up to vaping manufacturers that are preying on them for profit.”So far across the U.S., there have been more than 800 confirmed illnesses tied to vaping and 13 deaths. The news conference comes after health officials around the country advise people to refrain from vaping as investigations into the cause of the illnesses and deaths continue. “E-cigarettes, and in particular the flavored products, are erasing years of progress in reducing teens’ use of tobacco and nicotine,” said Supervisor Fletcher.In San Diego County, there have been 22 confirmed probable vaping-related illness cases. Teenagers and young adults make up about half of those hospitalized as a result of e-cigarette use, according to the state Department of Public Health. 1513
