SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) - One person was seriously hurt in an explosion during a cannabis oil extraction operation in the South Bay, police say. According to police, the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at a house near the intersection of Lieder Drive and Green Bay Street. One person was severely burned and was rushed to the hospital as a result of the explosion. The person hasn't been identified and it's not immediately clear if any arrests are being made.  503

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with a death at a Rancho Pe?asquitos home stemming from a reported fight at the residence.San Diego police said officers were called to a home in the 12500 block of Darkwood Rd. in Rancho Penasquitos just before 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in response to a reported fight at the house.According to police, a man called 911 to report his 23-year-old son, Wyatt Austin Lane, had been in a fight with a guest at their home earlier in the day.Regarding the fight, the father reported that his son told him “the guest had lost and never regained consciousness,” according to police.Officers arrived to find a deceased male inside a bedroom with “apparent trauma to his body,” police said. The victim was not immediately identified.Lane was arrested and booked into County Jail on suspicion of murder.SDPD Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the incident. 921

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two community boards that review police practices will hold emergency meetings Wednesday and Thursday regarding the San Diego Police Department's de-escalation-of-force policies.The city's Citizens Advisory Board on Police/Community Relations will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Thursday evening meeting of the Community Review Board on Police Practices, both of which can be viewed on the city's website and YouTube page.San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said the goal of both meetings is to "take a serious look at de-escalation recommendations that could be implemented by our department" and "increasing and facilitating further dialogue and understanding between our officers, our men and women who are out there protecting us, and the community."Faulconer said public input is welcome regarding what SDPD policies should be updated or changed."Many are crying out to be heard. We are listening," Faulconer said. "Your city is listening. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A group of good Samaritans is receiving praise after knocking down a brush fire in Carmel Valley on Tuesday afternoon.After spending all day on top of a roof, Ubaldo Lopez and his team at Palomar Solar & Roofing were on their way back to the office."We were going down the hill, and it started to smell," Lopez said. "At first, I thought somebody crashed, but then I saw the fire."Many people slowed down on Carmel Valley Road as the flames crept closer. Others called 911 for help. But before the firefighters arrived, Lopez and his team pulled over and jumped into action."I got the extinguisher and a couple of my buddies here, they got the shovels and started putting dirt on it," Lopez pointed at his team. Right beside him attacking the growing flames were his son Damien and co-workers, Cirinio Rios and Miguel Esteban.Although the men are not trained firefighters, they are familiar with fire. They work on what is called "torch down roofing," a process where a flame is used to melt a rubbery membrane on a flat roof to make it waterproof. So they know the dangers of what could happen if the winds picked up."The weather was crazy and the red flag [warning]," Lopez said. "The fire department, they've been so busy, so you know, that could have gone out of hand."With the help of a few other good Samaritans, the team stopped the fire from spreading. Minutes later, they drove off, without knowing they would be praised for their swift actions all over social media."Omg that would have been really tragic had it spread," one person wrote on Facebook."Wow. Great effort. And saved the day," said another.When asked about being called heroes, Lopez humbly laughed."Oh no, no, no," he said. "We were just lucky that we were passing by.
