LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - The San Diego County Fair isn’t happening in 2020, but there are still ways to get your fair fix. There are virtual activities hosted through the fair, and one food vendor is still bringing fair food to the community. Chicken Charlie’s is known for deep-fried everything, from Oreos to meat, and this year, the new addition is deep fried taffy. While the fair won’t be happening, Charlie Boughosian has brought his trailer to the Grossmont Center in La Mesa to bring fried food to the community. Friday would have been the first day of the fair, so Charlie made it the first day of shop in the parking lot. “I’m feeling the same kind of pressure I feel on opening day of the fair,” he said Friday. Be prepared for a wait; the first day was a hit and the crowds showed up. He said they’ll start with hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. then expand if possible. Charlie said he’s still looking to hire about 20 employees. “I think food is love and I love feeding people and there’s nothing better than fried chicken. LIPAN, Texas – A man in Texas is dead after a possible mountain lion attack and officials are warning nearby residents to keep young children inside at night as they search for the animal.Around 3:30 p.m. last Thursday, deputies with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 15000 block of Howell Rd. in Lipan in reference to a missing person call.Deputies were told Christopher Allen Whiteley, 28, was missing and last seen on Wednesday, in the early morning hours.Deputies checked a wooded area nearby and eventually found Whiteley deceased, the sheriff's office said.Preliminary findings show Whiteley died from a wild animal attack, possibly a mountain lion.The sheriff’s office has contacted a governmental trapper with the USDA, who specializes in tracking and removing mountain lions. Officers said they'll work with the trapper and Texas game wardens to locate the animal.The sheriff's office urged the Lipan community to be mindful of their surrounding and to keep their young children and animals inside at night.“The safety of Hood County citizens are my priority one, but please don’t interfere with the process of locating the animal and stay clear of the area being actively worked by officials," said Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.Whiteley’s body was sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.This story was originally published by Thalia Brionez at KXXV. 1415

LIMON, Colo. -- When they first teed off this fall, the Limon High School boys’ golf team wasn’t sure what to expect.“We try to give 100% effort,” said Brady Rockwell.“We just kind of have to keep moving forward,” said senior Kory Tacha.They played with the same competitive spirit they always have.“They just want to compete,” said head golf coach Andrew Love. “And we wanted them to have that opportunity.”After all, "Badger Pride" isn’t just an empty expression around here.“Two back-to-back championships,” said Trey Jeffries.“Two-time state champs,” Love said.Yet this team isn’t exactly what you might expect.“Some of them have never even picked up a club before,” said Trey Hines.The 2020 Limon golf team is actually the Limon football team.“Almost all of the football players are out here,” said Hines, the quarterback of the football team.The boys were essentially forced into a more socially distant sport by the coronavirus.“It’s a work in progress for all of us, I think,” Tacha said. “Golf is just one thing to take our mind off all the changes and have a little bit of normalcy. We just want to be out here doing something.”“There’s no trash talking in golf, really,” laughed senior Gaige Hilferty, who also wrestles and plays baseball. “I’ve always wanted to golf, and the school never offered it.”“I’ve never really been a golfer,” said Rockwell, a cornerback on the football team.In fact, there was no golf team at all in Limon until COVID-19 disrupted the world of high school sports.“They were like, ‘Well, what are we going to do, coach?’” said Love, who is also the head football coach. “And I was like, ‘Well, we can create a golf team!’ Almost half-joking. Kind of hoping that it wouldn’t happen, and it did.”What it did was kept this team together.“We had about 22 kids out here,” Hines said.It kept them social.“I’m definitely glad we’re just doing something out here,” Hines said. “And not sitting at home mourning the loss of football. I’d definitely rather be competing at something.”And kept them competitive.“I’m definitely learning something new and getting better at it,” Rockwell said.A little diversion for the reigning back-to-back Colorado Class 1A football champions.“You have to have the nice, proper clap,” Hilferty said. “Not the yelling and screaming that goes hand-in-hand with football. Golf is a game of patience.”“Hopefully this year we can do the same thing,” Love said.Limon finished its golf season at the end of September and has now restarted its football program thanks to new guidance from the Colorado High School Activities Association. After initially announcing football would be played next spring in Colorado, CHSAA recently reversed that decision, allowing teams to play this fall if they opted for Season A.“I’m just looking forward to starting play,” Rockwell said. “I want to play as soon as possible.”The Limon Badgers will play their first football game of the season this coming Monday, Oct. 12 against Yuma High School.
