SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Kensington's historic Ken Cinema, an institution in the San Diego neighborhood for nearly 75 years, is closing its doors for good this March.The theater will shut down after March 22, a spokesperson with owner Landmark Theaters told 10News.According to the spokesperson, "After long consideration and much effort, we regret that we are unable to continue operating the Ken Cinema ... The company recognizes what a cherished asset the Ken has been to the neighboring community. It was the first theater to specialize in the film genres in San Diego.According to Landmark Theaters, the 300-seat cinema is the last single-screen theater in San Diego.In 1975, Landmark Theaters became the theater's owner. The Ken had already faced closure under the Landmark brand in 2014, leading to outraged fans voicing their concerns on social media. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many Asian American business owners continue to struggle during the pandemic, but a North County teen is hoping to help by creating a website to support local restaurants."I was hearing a lot of stories about Asians in my community experiencing discrimination during the pandemic," said 17-year-old Kaia Culotta.The teen said coming from a family of small business owners, she wanted to do something to help."I realized that there wasn't an easily accessible, comprehensible list of Asian owned businesses in my community," said Culotta. "So, I saw a need for that."For weeks, Culotta learned how to code through free programs online to build a website. The "Help Asian Owned Businesses" site has an extensive list of restaurants located around the county.Culotta said her project sparked the interest of San Diego City Councilmember Chris Cate. He even shared a video promoting the site on social media."It is awesome. It's such a neat thing to be doing out of the goodness of her heart," said Joe Kao, owner of R3fresh Juice Bar.After seeing Cate's video, the small business owner reached out to the teen to thank her for putting the site together.Kao said his business, like many others, had fewer customers during the pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In anticipation of its members returning, 24 Hour Fitness locations around San Diego County have made several changes that will allow them to follow county health guidelines and keep their doors open.Under the state’s tiered system for businesses, 24 Hour Fitness is among those able to resume indoor operations, but with specific modifications in place.The fitness centers are now requiring reservations for 90-minute workout sessions, and each location can only operate at 10 percent capacity, so they have to keep a close eye on how many people are inside of the building.While reservations will not be required for clubs in San Diego County, each club in the county will be capped at a 10 percent capacity.Jeremy Franke, Regional Vice President of 24 Hour Fitness, said, “We have a check-in system where we can check at any time and know how many people are in the club. And when we reach capacity, our system flags and says we’re at capacity. And we’ll have the next person wait. Like retail stores, we let one in and one out if we get full.”Once inside the gym, social distancing is a must. There are signs and markers that remind members about staying six feet apart.24 Hour Fitness has also stepped up with cleaning and disinfecting, shutting everything down for 30-minute periods throughout the day to do so.Some things will remain closed, such as spas, saunas, pools, and basketball courts.
