(KGTV) - “Antiques Roadshow” arrived in Coronado this week for a series of show tapings.The crew held an all-day appraisals event Tuesday at the Hotel del Coronado. 3,000 guests were set to have their items evaluated.Tickets were sold out months in advance for a chance to meet with some of the country’s leading auction houses and independent dealers.Due to the event’s popularity, traffic backed up near the hotel Tuesday.The tapings will be used in three different “Antiques Roadshow” episodes in 2019. 530

COMPTON (KGTV) - Two Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies were shot at a Compton train station late Saturday in what the department is calling an ambush-style attack.A 24-year-old male deputy and 31-year-old female deputy were shot as they sat inside their patrol vehicle at the Metro Blue Line station at Willowbrook Ave. and Oak St. just before 7 p.m., according to the department.The department said both deputies sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where they underwent surgery. CORONADO, Calif., (KGTV) — Despite recent shark sighting, thousands of people headed to the beach for the pre-holiday weekend. But instead of sharks, dozens of people left the beach after being stung by stingrays.Beautiful Coronado is home to majestic creatures, including great white sharks. "We do think that the great white shark populations are increasing," Heidi Dewar, research biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center said. She believes the population increase is linked to the implementation of fishing regulations in the 1990s. "In 1994, California pushed all the net-based fisheries outside of state water, which is three nautical miles out. And what that did was that basically protected most of the nursery habitat of the juvenile sharks on the coast," Dewar said. "About the same time, the UN banned these high seas directed at fisheries, which were killing some adult white sharks."Last week, two juvenile white sharks were spotted about a half a mile offshore from the Coronado coast. There were no shark attacks like the one last year in Encinitas, where a 13-year-old boy was bitten in the shoulder while lobster spearfishing. Still, the city officials in Coronado notified beachgoers to be on the lookout. That did not stop 11-year-old Tobias Appel from diving in." We just came here to boogie board and have a bunch of fun," Tobias said. He and his family from Phoenix are vacationing in Coronado. They were having a great time until Tobias was stung by a stingray."Today is not my lucky day," Tobias said. This was his first time getting stung by a ray. We met him as he was sticking his foot into a hot water bath at the lifeguard station. "It is under. Right there," he said. In the hour Tobias was at the lifeguard station neutralizing the venom, we saw several others being carried in for emergency treatment. Lifeguards said warm water, low tide, and a packed beach is the perfect formula for a stingray warning. "One of the most amazing things about the ocean is that right there we have wilderness," Dewar said. "And with the wilderness, we have wild animals. So that's definitely a side of the ocean that people need to keep in mind when they go swimming or surfing."Biologists say remember, this summer when you are going to the beach, you are stepping into the animals' homes. So do not forget to be respectful and careful, while you are having fun. Meanwhile, Tobias has one more day in Coronado before he leaves for Phoenix. He hopes to enjoy what he can. Customers of Comcast’s Xfinity internet service in many states may find that they will be charged if they use a lot of internet at home.The news comes as many Americans are working, schooling and using the internet to watch TV programs through the internet.Comcast will begin limiting many customers to 1.2 terabytes of internet data per month before charging overages. Beginning in December, Comcast says it will begin offering an unlimited plan for customers who plan to use that much data. For most customers who rent a gateway from Comcast, an unlimited plan would cost an additional a month, while most other customers would pay an additional a month. Comcast will implement the plans for customers in the states of CT, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, parts of NC, NY, parts of OH, PA, VA, VT, WV, and the District of Columbia.The cap will not apply to the Gigabit Pro tier of service or business internet customers.For those who use more than 1.2 terabytes of data per month, Comcast will charge for every 50 gigabytes of additional data. The overages will be capped at 0 per month.Comcast says it will notify customers when they're nearing their data limit, and will send those notifications at 75%, 90% and 100% usage.Comcast says only 5% of its customers exceed 1.2 terabytes of data per month. Before the pandemic, Comcast suspended caps on internet usage as more Americans began using the internet for work and school.Those who stream TV might be most likely to go over the cap. According to Netflix, one hour of video can use up to 7 gigabytes of data. Someone who streams six hours a day without using any additional internet could use up an entire month’s worth of data. However, Comcast refutes those estimates and says that 1.2 terabytes cover as many as 500 hours of streaming video.
