Dr. Deborah Birx, a key member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, sent a sharply-worded memo to the administration over her concerns about the rise in coronavirus cases, the New York Times and Washington Post reported on Monday.The memo comes as confirmed coronavirus cases are at record levels in the US. Donald Trump attended an August 2015 meeting that federal prosecutors believe was central to a criminal scheme to violate campaign finance laws to help Trump win the presidency, according to a source familiar with the matter.According to court filings, Trump was joined by Michael Cohen, who was his attorney at the time, and David Pecker, the chairman of American Media Inc., parent company of the National Enquirer.During the meeting, the group discussed a plan to shield Trump from potentially damaging stories. Prosecutors say this amounted to illegal donations to Trump's campaign.Trump's attendance was first reported by the Wall Street Journal in a November article. The meeting returned to the spotlight Wednesday when federal prosecutors announced that they agreed not to prosecute AMI for campaign finance violations in exchange for its cooperation.The newspaper reported that Trump asked Pecker what he could do to help his presidential campaign.Federal prosecutors in Manhattan mentioned the meeting when they charged Cohen over the summer with two campaign finance violations. Those crimes related to hush-money payments to two women who alleged affairs with Trump. For his part, Trump has denied the affairs.Prosecutors also described the meeting in the AMI agreement, which became public Wednesday.That document said Cohen, Pecker, and "one or more members of the campaign" met in August 2015. At that meeting, "Pecker offered to help deal with negative stories about that presidential candidate's relationships with women by, among other things, assisting the campaign in identifying such stories so they could be purchased, and their publication avoided."AMI now admits that after that meeting, Pecker agreed to "keep Cohen appraised" of negative stories about Trump. The tabloid played a role in facilitating the hush-money payments against the women, Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels, in the months leading up to the 2016 election.Pecker and AMI haven't been charged with any crimes. The US is averaging more than 2,500 coronavirus-related deaths and is still battling a surge spurred by Thanksgiving gatherings.“I am going to practice what I am preaching to my fellow Americans in this country,” Fauci told Blitzer. “I am going to do something that is quite modified from what I had done traditionally. I am going to have a quiet dinner in my home with my wife. I would love to have my three daughters who are on different parts of the country, different states that would have to fly in for the most part. We are going to do a Zoom together. EL CAJON (KGTV) - A San Diego woman said she paid thousands for an SUV she picked up from an East County used car dealership, but she still can't get behind the wheel. Chika Starks said she currently does not have the vehicle because the business shut down.She moved to San Diego with her toddler shortly after her husband died.“I’m a single mother,” Starks told Team 10. “Having a car was for my convenience. To help my life, my son’s life.”She and her mother-in-law found a 2007 Jeep Commander in January on Craigslist, sold by Carbox, Incorporated on El Cajon Boulevard.“The price was right,” Starks said.It cost her ,500. Starks said there was an unusual way to process the payment--an employee ran the credit card through a La Jolla restaurant, Olive and Basil. She said the employee told her it was a family business.Starks told Team 10 there were problems shortly after she paid for it. First, she said the key fob was not working correctly. Then, with the car driven about 40 miles, there were more issues. She said a mechanic told her the catalytic converter needed to be replaced, along with the vehicle’s computer. On top of that, she was told the smog check failed. Starks also said the title was never transferred to her name.When Team 10 checked the car’s registration in September, it was still registered to Carbox, Inc. Starks blames the owner for broken promises.“It’s stressful. A lot of money,” Starks said.  According to the DMV, a used car dealer has 30 days to transfer title to the new owner. The penalty is if it is not transferred. A DMV spokesman said it is an additional if the total application does not clear within a certain time. The DMV confirmed there is an open investigation into Carbox.“This place is not really honest to us,” Starks told Team 10.There is now a new car dealership in the old Carbox location. The man who runs the new business told Team 10 he worked for Carbox’s former owner, Peyman Abdipoorzahandeh. Abdipoorzahandeh's name is listed on the Secretary of State filing for Carbox.Team 10 contacted Abdipoorzahandeh in mid-October. The former owner would not grant an in-person interview until mid-November, but told Team 10 over the phone that he is working with a DMV investigator and that this is “not a normal situation.” He did not explain the title transfer delay of nearly 10 months. He said he is not doing anything illegal and said he is trying to help Starks get her money back.That is what Starks hopes for.“I don’t want other people to go through what I went through,” she said.Hal Rosner with Rosner, Barry & Babbitt specializes in auto fraud. EL CAJON (CNS) - Murder and attempted murder charges were filed Friday against a man accused of shooting two men in El Cajon earlier this year, killing one of them.Roberto Hernandez, 26, faces 59 years to life in state prison if convicted of the charges stemming from the March 20 shooting that killed James Bowens, 20, and injured another 20-year-old man, both El Cajon residents, according to Deputy District Attorney Clayton Carr.Police said officers responded just before 8 p.m. to reports of gunshots in the area of 700 Applewood Drive. Witnesses said "a confrontation had taken place in the street near the intersection of Applewood Drive and Cedar Street," according to El Cajon police.Bowens died at a hospital of at least one gunshot to his upper body and the other man was shot in the leg, police said.A suspected motive for the shooting, and the relationship, if any, between Hernandez and the victims, was not disclosed.Hernandez, who entered a not guilty plea, is being held without bail and is due back in court June 29, according to county jail records. 1076
