An Oceanside City Councilman is proposing a tax credit for companies who hire Oceanside residents and pay them at least ,000 a year.Councilman Christopher Rodriguez says he wants to reward Oceanside businesses who hire locally. The proposal, which the City Council will initially discuss Wednesday, would pay Oceanside companies ,500 for each new hire who lives in Oceanside and is paid that minimum salary. "It's a big problem, housing affordability in North County," Rodriguez said. "North County, Coastal Oceanside, we're up and coming. It's more expensive to live here for sure."Rodriguez said his proposal is a starting point and that he is willing to move on the numbers based on council feedback. If there is support, city staff could analyze the proposal and return in 120 days with a concrete plan.Business groups such as the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce expressed support for the plan. Peter Rodriguez, an operations manager at Beachfront Only, a vacation rental property management firm, said the credit could help his company. An intoxicated Mansfield woman was arrested on Saturday after making lewd comments to the Easter Bunny.Ladonna Hughett, 54, was arrested at Richland Carrousel Park in Mansfield, Ohio.Witnesses told police the woman made several lewd comments while taking a photograph with the Easter Bunny and appeared to be intoxicated. Afterward, Hughett went for a ride on the carrousel.Police said Hughett appeared to be under the influence when they arrived. She was charged with drunkenness and taken to Richland County Jail. An 11-year-old boy is now safe after getting sucked into a drain during Tuesday's flooding in Harrison, Wisc.. According to officials, the boy and some of his friends were playing in a retention pond that was completely full and draining at a high rate. Apparently, the boy got some goggles so he could see where the water was draining. He then got sucked in and disappeared under water. The boy's friends called 911 and emergency crews responded. Crews searched for 45 minutes until one of the rescuers saw the little boy sticking his finger through a manhole covering. The manhole lid was removed and the boy was pulled to safety. The boy was transported to a local hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance and was conscious and alert at the time.Sheriff’s officials are warning parents to not allow children to play in or near drainage ditches or retaining ponds especially during storms.
