ROME, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- China and EU agreed here Sunday to continue their dialogue in order to strengthen the important cooperation with each other.     Hua Jianmin, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), or China's legislature, met with President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek in Rome, before attending a summit for parliament speakers of the Group of Eight (G8) and emerging economies on behalf of top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo. WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Visiting top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Thursday met with U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, was the first top Chinese legislator that has visited the United States during the past two decades.     Before meeting with Obama, Wu met U.S. Vice President Joe Biden at the White House. Wu will hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton later in the day. WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Visiting top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday to exchange views on bilateral ties as well as international and regional issues of common concern.     Speaking to reporters before their talks, Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, said he was pleased to visit the United States at the invitation of Speaker Pelosi, noting that the visit was the first by a top Chinese legislator over the past 20 years.     "The purpose of my visit is intended to promote further growth of China-U.S. relations," Wu said, describing the relationship as one of the most important, dynamic and promising bilateral ties in the world.     He expressed the belief that his U.S. trip will inject new impetus to the growth of China-U.S. relations. BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- As more people made return trips to go back home and work, China saw a traffic boom on Thursday. Road transport departments nationwide carried 62.23 million passengers on Thursday, up 9.0 percent over the same day last year, according to the Ministry of Transport (MOT).     In the eight-day holiday, a total of 488 million passengers made journeys by road transport, representing an increase of 6.8 percent over the same period last year. HONG KONG, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China displayed a scale model of its jetliner C919,the country's first home-grown large commercial airliner, for the first time at the Asian Aerospace '09 on Tuesday. With a scale of one to ten, the model was so far "the most precise one put up for public display," said Guo Bozhi, president of the Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute, a unit of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, or COMAC.     The mockup was displayed at a prominent position at the Asian Aerospace, Asia's leading air show, side by side with industry giants like Boeing and Airbus. Together with some ten other Chinese mainland-based manufacturers, suppliers and service providers at the show, it attracted attention of media from around the world. A mockup of jumbo jet C919, the major project of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), is displayed at the Asian Aerospace '09 in Hong Kong, China, Sept. 8, 2009. COMAC is a company established in 2008 with the State Council approval to develop C919, the first home-made jumbo jet of China. It has a registered capital of 19 billion yuan (2.78 billion U.S. dollars), with the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission as the biggest shareholder.     The company has said the maiden flight of C919 was planned for late 2014, with delivery expected by 2016. It was intended as a single-aisle airliner to target the short and medium haul markets in eight to ten years from now, Wang said.     If successful, COMAC plans to produce 50 C919 aircraft each year at the early stage and annual production could reach 100 or even more at a later stage, depending on how it is received by the market, Guo said.
