President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President Mike Pence are set to receive the COVID-19 vaccine soon.According to two transition officials familiar with the matter, Biden will receive the vaccine publicly as early as next week. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to discuss it publicly. The White House says Pence and his wife, Karen, will receive the vaccine publicly on Friday at 8 a.m. ETAccording to USA Today, Surgeon General Jerome Adams will also be vaccinated on Friday.Biden said on Tuesday that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert, advised him to get the vaccine “sooner than later.” Biden has said that he wants to keep front-line health care workers and vulnerable people as the top priority as the vaccine is rolled out throughout the country. But he’s also noted the importance of him getting the vaccine publicly to build confidence among Americans to get vaccinated.Biden said, “I don’t want to get ahead of the line, but I want to make sure we demonstrate to the American people that it is safe to take." 1096

Rattled by a string of explosions, which has put the city on edge for the last two weeks, a possible new explosion was reported Tuesday evening near a Goodwill store, the Austin Police Department said on its Twitter account. But after an hour of investigating, the police department said the explosion stemmed from an an incendiary device. The department said the incident was likely not connected to a previous string of explosions. One male said to be in his 30s was transported to the hospital. President Donald Trump used the United Nations as a foil on the campaign trail in 2016, slamming it for its "utter weakness and incompetence" and arguing that it is "not a friend of freedom."His history with the international body on Manhattan's East Side doesn't start there -- as a real estate creature of New York, Trump has long interacted with the UN.On his first day attending the UN's yearly meeting, Trump tried to play nice. But it's clear that his skepticism for the organization remains. 506

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The forward rate of spread has been stopped after a fire scorched several acres in Rancho Santa Fe Tuesday afternoon. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started on the 6000 block of Avenida Cuatro Vientos around 2 p.m. The agency said the fire burned through two to three acres. A resident of the neighborhood was at work and said his wife called him, crying and concerned about the flames moving up the hill."Fortunately, my next-door neighbor, who's been here for over 30 years, had a portable pool pump," said Dr. Afshar. "And he was the first to arrive on action to put out the flames that were in our backyard. By the time he had it controlled, the fire department was here."The homeowner believes the fire may have been started by crews hired to clear brush.Witnesses report seeing smoke as far away as Interstate 15. Video taken from the fire shows blackened hillside working its way up near a home perched atop the hill. 969

President Donald Trump’s campaign has filed a lawsuit trying to halt the vote count in battleground Michigan. The latest counts gives Trump’s Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, a small lead, but the race is still too early to call.Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien says in a statement Wednesday that the campaign “has not been provided with meaningful access to numerous counting locations to observe the opening of ballots and the counting process, as guaranteed by Michigan law.”He says a suit was filed Wednesday in the Michigan Court of Claims “to halt counting until meaningful access has been granted.”The lawsuit asks that Michigan absent voter counting boards stop counting because they are not complying with a state statute that 1 election inspector from each major political party be present during counting. It also asks that observers be allowed to view surveillance video of ballot boxes that were in "remote and unattended" locations.Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's office released a statement asserting the state's elections were "conducted transparently, with access provided for both political parties and the public, and using a robust system of checks and balances to ensure that all ballots are counted fairly and accurately." 1263
