SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A parolee suspected of sexually trafficking a 15- year-old runaway was arrested Wednesday in Sorrento Valley.Joseph Price, 23, was taken into custody in the 9800 block of Pacific Heights Boulevard in San Diego about 9:45 a.m., according to sheriff's officials.Earlier in the morning, detectives contacted the alleged victim and returned her to her home, Sgt. Chase Chiappino said.Price was booked into county jail solely on suspicion of violating conditions of his parole, but sex-trafficking charges are expected to be filed against him, the sergeant said.Details about Price's purported victimization of the girl -- allegations that arose from an investigation by juvenile-services officers and the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force -- were not immediately available. 800

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - As a county with the third highest population of veterans in the United States, San Diego County has multiple events Wednesday meant to honor those who served in the Armed Forces.Rep. Mike Levin, D-San Juan Capistrano, announced the formation of a panel of servicemembers, veterans, and other community leaders who will work together on recommendations to name either an Oceanside or San Diego Department of Veterans Affairs facility after a woman veteran.The VA Facility Dedication Advisory Panel will compile a report on notable women veterans with ties to the region who are worthy of the honor. Currently, there are no VA facilities in the United States that are named after women veterans, and neither the San Diego VA Medical Center nor the Oceanside VA Clinic are named after an individual.The panel is led by Army Veteran and Carlsbad resident Karin Brennan."Throughout our nation's history, women have served and sacrificed for our freedom just like men, but have often gone without the recognition they deserve," Levin said."It is past time to rectify that injustice and live up to our responsibility to honor all veterans, including women. It's disappointing that not a single VA facility in the country is named after a woman veteran, but we can change that here in our district."In September 2020, the VA released the 2020 Report of its Advisory Committee on Women Veterans. The committee made seven recommendations to VA, one of which is the inclusionary branding of VA facilities. His work is considered "3D industrial," and uses items like drywall screws, dog tags and golf tees.The San Diego Blood Bank will have its mobile tent outside the Midway Museum. Donors will receive one ticket for entry into the museum. Veterans and active duty military will get free admission all day.Lastly, in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the USS Midway Museum will conduct a special broadcast of its "Destination Midway" live webcast series at 12:30 p.m. The webcast will feature ship historian Karl Zingheim as he interviews four WWII veterans.-- Meals on Wheels San Diego County, a nonprofit organization that supports the independence and well-being of seniors in need by delivering them nutritious meals, will make a special delivery to honor an Oceanside veteran.Brent Wakefield, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels San Diego County, will deliver meals to World War II Navy veteran Ed Kruck and thank him for his service. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - California Attorney General Xavier Becerra filed a lawsuit today against the Trump administration over its plan to begin construction on a border wall in San Diego and Imperial counties.Speaking to reporters at Border Field State Park, Becerra said he filed a complaint in federal court in San Diego that alleges legal and constitutional violations. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- A San Diego man who allegedly had Molotov cocktails in his possession at last month's La Mesa police brutality protest is facing federal charges, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.Zachary Alexander Karas, 28, is charged with possession of an unregistered destructive device for allegedly having two glass bottles containing gasoline and wicks while at the protest, which began May 30 and carried over into the morning of May 31.According to the charging document, officers spotted Karas and his girlfriend sitting on the pavement at the corner of Allison Avenue and Spring Street at around 2 a.m. May 31.Karas was arrested for not leaving the area after dispersal orders were given by law enforcement, following the declaration of an unlawful assembly, according to the complaint.In an interview with law enforcement, Karas allegedly said "he brought the Molotov cocktails to the protest at the police station because he intended to use the Molotov cocktails to set fires, but ultimately did not cause any fires."Fires were set at the Chase and Union Bank branches and Randall Lamb Associates building near the site of the protest, but the complaint does not allege Karas set any of the fires sparked following the protest."The Constitution strongly protects the First Amendment right of all to speak out and peacefully protest," said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer.
