SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego students have a new way to report claims of physical or sexual abuse in school.Thursday, District Attorney Summer Stephan announced the creation of a new, online reporting system for suspected abuse. She also announced the creation of the Student Safety in School Systems Task Force."It's critically important that these reports don't fall through the cracks," Stephan says. "The safety of our students depends on it."RELATED: La Jolla Bishop's School graduate describes former teacher sexually abusing her, alumni come forwardStephan says many times, students don't feel comfortable going to school administrators or officials with claims of abuse. They fear the claims won't be taken seriously, or the allegations could be covered up. The new online system gives the students a more secure feeling that their claims will be investigated.The task force will vet and review every submission and follow up with the appropriate law enforcement agency. They will also guide the person facing the suspected abuse to find resources and other available services for help.This will not replace the responsibility of mandated reporters within schools, Stephan says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Since moving to San Diego three years ago, Angela Alean says her financial situation has been like a rollercoaster.“It has been like ups and downs,” she said.By night, she’s a student learning childhood development. By day, she’s an assistant teacher at a preschool in Pacific Beach.She’d like to become a lead teacher one day, but her education has left her with more than ,000 in student debt.Her financial goal is to pay that debt off as fast as possible. Alean is one of several San Diegans 10News will follow for the next year to monitor their successes and struggles while attempting to accomplish a financial goal.“When I think about me not having debt, I think about the possibility of me studying more, learning more about child development, learning more about how to work in a preschool, about better ways to teach children,” she said.Alean knew she needed a lesson in financial management and budgeting, so she turned to free lessons on YouTube.Now she closely tracks her expenses and spending, she’s on a “rice and beans” food budget, and she picked up a second job as a tutor.“I’m willing to make the sacrifice. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police, Chula Vista Police, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reminded the public Friday about DUI enforcement scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend.16 people died and another 385 were injured in alcohol-related collisions during the holiday in 2016.Deputies said they would be conducting additional DUI patrols from Friday at 7 p.m. through early Tuesday morning.San Diego and Chula Vista Police said officers would also conduct extra patrols. Motorcycle and seat belt enforcement patrols were also planned for the weekend.Law enforcement agencies also warned drivers to be aware that driving under the influence of marijuana is also driving impaired."Don't put your life and those of others in danger by driving while impaired," said Sheriff Bill Gore. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Stephanie Eppig didn't sleep much last night.She was busy transforming her business model - under a very tight deadline.“I had to redo the entire schedule, try to line up a food partnership, change our hours,” she said.Eppig co-owns Eppig Brewing, with locations in vista and Point Loma.It was getting back up to speed just in time for July, its busiest month .Then, the devastating news Monday - the county - placing strict new limits on bars, breweries and wineries, to stop the increased spread of the coronavirus.The Vista location - back to Curbside pickup only. As for Point Loma, all guests coming will be required to order food, prepared by a food truck on site.“It's really a punch in the gut right now for us and our employees,” Eppig said. “It’s awful because this is our livelihood and this is our employees’ livelihood and we have zero control over our ability to run our business.”To make matters worse, Eppig already exhausted all the money from her federal Paycheck Protection Program loan - which got the brewery through the first shut down.There's no new agreement on a second round of stimulus.Attorney Kelly DuFord Williams, managing partner at Slate Law Group, says businesses can talk to their banks about lending opportunities - but that involves risk.“Either the government in California or if the Federal Government is going to make that decision, they need to fund another round of P.P.P., so that people can keep their jobs, and people's mental health and family life can have some sort of stability,” said DuFord Williams, who represents small businesses and restaurants.County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said Tuesday that he is hopeful federal officials will continue to provide economic support for impacted businesses and workers.The employees who went back to work and need unemployment once again will have to rectify for the benefits, the state Employment Development Department said.
