SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fans and players on Petco Park's field fled as hundreds of bees swarmed near the Padres' dugout Sunday afternoon.At about 4:06 p.m., in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Fox Sports reported a queen bee landed on their microphone and hundreds of bees followed suit."It made my skin crawl," Padres Fan Kel Loftis said."Out of the blue all of the sudden you saw everybody running off the field," Padres Fan Bob Pollack said.As fans saw the area clear out, some were concerned for their family's safety, "it was kinda crazy like what's going on?" Loftis said. As a military man, he was concerned something more serious was happening.Then everyone in the stadium saw the television screens with a close up on the swarm. "Between [Austin] Hedges, [Josh] Naylor and [Glenn] Hoffman, you know the third base coach, I was wondering who was more panicked," Loftis said chuckling.Padres Catcher Austin Hedges was seen wearing a Deadpool mask, sweatshirt and holding two bats, seemingly ready to battle the bees. A man from Cartwright Pest Control came out to save the day. Fans dubbed him "Bee Man." The delay in total was less than 30 minutes.The Padres confirmed the company is out at the park for every game in case of an event like this.A group of Girl Scouts in the crowd were concerned about the safety of the bees. This isn't the first time Petco's had bees, a swarm showed up in July of 2009 and delayed the game by almost an hour.While fans thought the bee delay Sunday was strange, they took it in stride.Some parents used it as a teachable moment. "Well she had a lot of questions so the first thing she said was why are the bees out there?" And what an exciting times it is, as the centerpiece of the plans includes a brand new stadium. "It will become the signature project that defines the future. Not only for SDSU, but for higher education in California," says San Diego State President Adela de la Torre.The project will include an innovative educations district, 86 acres of land used for a park and recreation, affordable housing, a hotel, and of course, a 35 thousand seat stadium "I can't wait to see the team run on to Basher field and enjoy the cheers of 35 thousand fans,"says de la Torre.Equally excited is Aztecs Director of Athletics JD Wicker."We are building a stadium for Aztecs football, international and professional soccer, concerts, and any other event you can think of. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Details about a woman’s report of a violent rape were revealed in a downtown San Diego courtroom Wednesday as a resident of a nearby halfway house was charged with the crime. Juan Guzman pleaded not guilty to attacking the woman at 1:40 a.m. December 16 at her home in City Heights. Prosecutors said the victim was sitting on her bedroom floor in front of a mirror when she heard a noise and thought it was her boyfriend. She then saw the reflection of a man she didn’t know, according to attorneys. The man put his finger over his mouth and said “Shh”, the woman reportedly told police. He threatened her with a knife and raped her, prosecutors said. The woman called police, who questioned the man at the halfway house where he lived. Investigators found the woman’s underwear and the knife underneath Guzman’s mattress, prosecutors said. A judge set Guzman’s bail at million, saying he was a danger to the community. Guzman’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 3. 1006

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Documents show the man accused of pummeling a teenage Syrian refugee on a trolley car has a history of run-ins with authorities.On Oct. 15, Adrian Vergara was accused of the crime after approaching the teen and asking him if he's Mexican."He responded, no I am Arab. He does not speak a lot of English, and with that response the person began to pummel him in the face," Geneviéve Jones-Wright, Legal Director, Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, said.Tuesday, San Diego Police said they had arrested Vergara on suspicion of assault with force and violation of civil rights.RELATED: Man accused of attacking Syrian refugee aboard trolley car arrested10News dug into Vergara's background and found a history of violent incidents. In 2012, court documents say Vergara threatened a man with a billy club. He did community service in the South Metro Career Center. A letter says he worked well there with special needs students as well as general students. And in 2016, he was charged with grand theft and burglary for breaking into the Central Library.Later that year, documents say Vergara violated a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, kicking her front door, texting her and in a phone call, cursing at her and saying, "if you don't talk to me I'm going to go to your job and cause a scene. I don't care about my life."
