More than 3,000 gathered in downtown San Diego while roughly 300 demonstrated in Del Mar. "The large group of 3000+ peaceful protestors have begun to march onto Ash St. They will be going North on 6th towards Hillcrest. "I want discussions, I want conversations, this cannot continue to happen."Brown decided to plan the protest Tuesday. The protest ended before 2 p.m. in front of the pride flag in Hillcrest. "It symbolizes so much, it's very welcoming of anyone that wants to be accepted and I just thought that would be the perfect way to resolve today's event."Brown said he was happy to see the protest remaining peaceful, but was left slightly disappointment by one thing."I was hoping that some of the civic leaders would have shown up today," he said. "So you can look your community in the eye and tell them exactly what you are feeling, I want you to tell them exactly the change that needs to happen."RELATED: More San Diego law enforcement agencies are dropping the controversial use of carotid restraintA third protests is scheduled to begin at the Torrey Pines Glideport around noon Saturday. Tribune Media found another buyer after its last merger was scuttled.Nexstar Media Group announced Monday it will buy Tribune's 42 television stations and cable network in an all-cash .1 billion deal. The merger will form the nation's largest TV station company. Tribune's stock (TRCO) is surging 10% in premarket trading. The acquisition comes four months after Sinclair Broadcast Group's attempted purchase of Tribune was terminated. The two companies are still embroiled in lawsuits over the failed merger, which came under intense scrutiny from government regulators and criticism from public watchdogs. The sheer size of Nexstar will massively enlarge the Texas-based media company. If approved, the combined company will own more than 200 TV stations and cover 39% of US households.Nexstar will now gain a foothold in major markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago for the first time, plus a cable channel (WGN America) and a 31% stake in the Food Network.Nexstar CEO Perry Sook said in a release that the two companies has a "clear path to closing.""Nexstar has long viewed the acquisition of Tribune Media as a strategically, financially and operationally compelling opportunity that brings immediate value to shareholders of both companies," Sook said. The company acknowledged it will have to sell some local TV stations to get approved. The long wait for a buyer is good news for Tribune shareholders: The new deal is a 45% spike in value of its stock compared to its July 16, 2018 closing price when Federal Communications Commission Chair Ajit Pai called for a hearing over the Sinclair-Tribune deal. 1632

TROY, Ala. – A memorial service was held for civil rights icon and U.S. Rep. John Lewis in his hometown in Alabama on Saturday.Lewis died at 80 years old on Friday, July 17, after a battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The Democrat served 17 terms in the House of Representatives, representing Georgia’s 5th congressional district since 1987.The Alabama service celebrating “The Boy from Troy” was held at Troy University’s Trojan Arena, followed by a public viewing.WATCH THE SERVICE BELOW:The service had a limited amount of seating for members of the public, in accordance with social distancing guidelines. Visitors were also asked to wear face coverings. The congressman’s family, friends and the public celebrated his life and legacy of fighting for human rights in the U.S.Troy University says Lewis was born the son of sharecroppers in 1940, grew up on his family’s farm and attended segregated public schools in Pike County. As a young boy, he was inspired by the activism surrounding the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the words of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., which he heard on radio broadcasts, the school says.Lewis’ upbringing in Alabama is said to have shaped his passion for civil rights and led him to become a vanguard of progressive social movements.“John Lewis helped change the history of America,” said Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. “His focus on justice for all was a rallying cry for the ages. He was a good man with a loving heart, and he will be missed.”On Sunday, Lewis’ casket will be carried over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, where he and other civil rights activists were beaten by law enforcement in 1965. 1670
