SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rep. Duncan Hunter's opponent, Ammar Campa-Najjar, spoke out Tuesday about the indictment against the congressman. “Now is the time to put country over party,” Campa said in a brief video posted on YouTube. Campa continued by adding that Hunter "is in it for himself." The couple is also accused of filing false campaign finance records with the Federal Election Commission. RELATED: San Diego Congressman Duncan Hunter and wife indicted for campaign fund misuseAccording to an affidavit, hunter allegedly spent the money on vacations, dental work, tuition, movie tickets, video games and home utilities, among other things. The affidavit goes on to claim that the Hunters mischaracterized the purchases in FEC filings as things such as campaign travel, dinner with volunteers or campaign contributors, toy drives and teacher/parent events.  Hunter and Campa will face off in November. In the June Primary, Hunter finished with 49 percent of the vote with Campa gaining 16 percent. Political Consultant Laura Fink told 10News Tuesday night that a more recent generic ballot showed the to candidates "neck-and-neck." Fink added “It got close before this indictment. With Republicans having less energy in their turnout, it gives Campa-Najjar a real shot at this.” 1835

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating the death of a man they say appeared to have been in an altercation right before his death.SDPD officers responded to a medical distress call just after 2 p.m. Tuesday inside a home at 6600 Springfield Street in Encanto. When police arrived, San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were already there performing CPR on a man.Police say the man was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.Homicide detectives arrived and began investigating. Wednesday, police said investigators learned that the man was involved in a physical altercation and injured before his death. They add that the man had difficulty breathing and collapsed.The 45-year-old man, identified Thursday as Antoine Deonte Dorsey, was a resident of the home and has been identified, but his name is being withheld at this time, police say.Police are now trying to locate witnesses of the altercation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rideshare drivers all over California are on strike protesting recent pay cuts by both Uber and Lyft. A small but vocal group of the drivers gathered at the San Diego airport Monday morning, opting to take part in a statewide protest against the companies they say are taking money out of their pockets. Recently, Uber announced it would be cutting drivers wage from 80 cents per mile to 60 cents. Workers say that’s on top of other cuts they’ve dealt with over the years. Drivers who spoke with 10News say other states like New York require companies to pay a minimum rate of more than per hour. Uber and Lyft both issued statements after the protest.Uber said in part, “…we're introducing a new Quest promotion feature, while also changing the per minute, per mile and minimum fare rates. These changes will make rates comparable to where they were in September."Lyft told 10News: "We are always open to conversations around how we can make Lyft better for drivers, but what we hear from the majority is that this is a flexible option that works for them." 1090

Faulconer and SDPD police chief David Nisleit said they are looking to build on recent police policies on officer use of force.Faulconer, Nisleit, and other public officials made a formal announcement Wednesday afternoon."We hear what the community's concerns are,” San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said. “The preservation of human life is our number one priority.”Nisleit said that de-escalation is a number one priority for the department.“De-escalation steps include things like creating a buffer zone between an officer and a subject to reduce tensions, or calling on specialized resources such as psychiatric emergency response team,” Mayor Kevin Faulconer said.“These policies are meant to protect the officer as much as the subject and prevent escalation as much as possible before force is used,” he added.“The officer must intervene,” Nisleit said when talking about officers stepping in when officers see excessive use of force.The announcement comes weeks since Nisleit said his department would stop the use of a hotly criticized carotid restraint procedure.SDPD, along with numerous other local agencies, stopped this technique in response to protests across the county after video surfaced showing a Minneapolis officer kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly 10 minutes.
