BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday urged more efforts to push forward the rejuvenation of the country's northeast and other traditional industrial bases.     Great progress has been made in the regions since China launched the rejuvenation move more than five years ago, said attendees at a meeting of the leading group of the State Council, the Cabinet, for revitalizing the northeast and other old industrial bases. The rejuvenation strategy of old industrial bases mainly covers regions including Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces and the northeastern parts of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Many cities in the regions face developing challenge as their energy resources are depleted and heavy industries face the burden of restructuring.     The meeting, chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao, agreed more efforts should be spent in the regions to optimize economic structure, promote the development of modern industries, and speed up infrastructure construction, especially some major energy, transport and water conservation projects.     Great importance should be attached to promoting innovation and technological progress in enterprises and work should be urged to develop modern agriculture as well as grain production, transportation and storage to secure the national grain reserve base.     The meeting also called for efforts to tackle issues emerging from the transformation of resources-oriented cities, eco-environmental conservation, improvement of people's livelihood, regional economic cooperation and state-owned enterprise reform.

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- China is ready to advance cooperation with Turkey in combating terrorism to better fulfill the common task of safeguarding national unification and territorial integrity and opposing separatism, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Sunday.     Yang made the remarks when meeting in Beijing with Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan, who paid the visit to China as special envoy of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The visit "indicated Turkey's political will to further its relationship with China," Yang said during the one-hour meeting, adding China attached great importance to promoting the ties with Turkey.     China was ready to strengthen the bilateral relations on the basis of universally recognized norms of international relations, he said. It had a profound political background.     The riot, taking place on July 5 in capital of the northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, left 197 people dead and more than 1,600 others injured.     Yang said the "East Turkestan" separatist forces' nature and harm was disclosed in the riot as it seriously jeopardized the lives, property of the Chinese people of various ethnic groups, and the local stability.     The measures taken by the Chinese government to deal with the incident according to law won wholehearted support of the local people of all ethnic groups, Yang said.     Caglayan reiterated Turkey's adherence to the one-China policy and its respect for China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.     The two peoples had a long history of friendship, and the two countries enjoyed "sound cooperation" in areas such as fighting terrorism, Caglayan said, adding Turkey would like to keep close contact with China in this area.     "Turkey will endeavor to develop a strong relationship with China, through deepening bilateral cooperation," he said.     Caglayan, who arrived in Beijing Saturday, also said the success of Turkish President Abdullah Gul's visit to China in June had exerted profound influence on the bilateral relations.     During his four-day stay in China, Caglayan was also scheduled to meet Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and visit Xinjiang, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry.

XUZHOU, Jiangsu, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao congratulates Sunday on the 100th founding anniversary of the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) in a letter, urging more talents in the country's energy resource industries.     Hu said in the letter that energy resources are the basis and guarantee of the country's economic and social development.     As a key base for the country's education on the science and technology of energy resources, the university shoulders great responsibilities and has a bright future, Hu said. She noted that the scientific exploitation and clean use of energy resources is a major issue for countries across the world and is also a key factor that is restricting China's modernization.     She called on teachers and students to attach individual values to the country's construction and go to the places where they are most needed.     The CUMT, one of the key national universities under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, is based in Xuzhou of east China's Jiangsu Province.     In 1997, the university's second campus was established in Beijing.

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a reception in Beijing Monday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. Addressing the event, Chen Haosu, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), a major non-governmental organization, said, "The friendship between the two countries had endured the test of time and changes in the world." BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is to be held from Sept. 15 to 18 this year, according to a statement issued Tuesday after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.     The decision was made at Tuesday's meeting, presided over by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.     Participants at Tuesday's meeting discussed a draft document on improving Party building which is to be submitted to the four-day plenary session for deliberation.     The CPC has to improve the Party building to cope with "major development, reform and adjustment in the world" and to better lead all ethnic groups to concentrate on construction and development, the statement said.     To sum up the Party's invaluable experience of strengthening self-building since the founding of the People's Republic of China 60 years ago, and enhance the Party building in the new situation, the CPC should stick to the following principles detailed in the statement:     -- The CPC should be strict with the Party members by conducting strict education, administration, monitoring and self-criticism.     The Party should also make redoubled efforts to improve the Party's work style, build a clean government and fight corruption to maintain its advanced and immaculate nature.     -- The CPC should focus on theological and ideological construction to enable the Party's theory and practice to keep pace with the time and be creative.     -- More efforts will be made to enhance the CPC's creativity, cohesiveness and fighting capacity to guarantee the Party to do a better job in governing and rejuvenating the country, and building socialism with Chinese characteristics.     -- The CPC should stick to scientific and democratic rule and rule by law to make it always a representative of the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.     -- The CPC should meet the essential requirements of building the Party to serve the public interests and running the government for the benefit of the people.     -- The CPC should improve itself in an innovative way.
