SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A group of ten college girls rode their bikes from Seattle to San Diego to fight sex trafficking. The group is comprised of women from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Alabama.Beginning in Seattle and ending in San Diego, these first-time riders biked down the West Coast, meeting with communities and local leaders along the way to spark conversations and raise money for the long-term, rehabilitative care for children rescued from sex traffickers. This is the third year for Pedal the Pacific and this year they nearly doubled their financial goal. They ended up raising over 250 thousand dollars. The organization tells 10News, "The team just received a 0,000 donation from the Harry W. Bass Jr Foundation. The foundation says they were appalled by Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes, but they found a positive way to make a difference with their donation to Pedal the Pacific."All of the money raised will be donated to The Refuge Ranch, the largest long-term, live-in rehabilitation facility for child survivors of sex trafficking in the US. 1071

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two weeks ago, the county warned San Diegans to continue practicing social distancing, washing of hands, and wearing facial coverings over the Labor Day weekend to thwart the spread of COVID-19.County public health officials had been clear that they did not want to see the same case spikes that followed July 4th and Memorial Day.Now that Labor Day has passed, local doctors say they have yet to see the same spike in coronavirus cases seen after holidays earlier this summer."We have not seen a sustained rate of 30, 40, 60 positives like we did around July 4. We're not seeing it yet," said Dr. David Pride, an infectious disease specialist at UC San Diego.Pride says the difference may be due to residents being more educated about the virus and how to best slow the spread. For the other two holidays, schools were also still closed.According to the county, 10 days after July 4 the region's positivity rate was 6.3%. Currently, the county's positivity rate is 4.4%."We're 10 days out, no big jump so far, our positivity rates suggest that something is different this time and hopefully that will continue for a week or two," Pride said. While San Diego County's positivity rate is low, it's the region's case rate (cases per 100,000 residents) that continues to be an issue. And now, it's the county's case rate that threatens to push the region's into a stricter reopening tier."This time around they're not sitting home, they're not socially distancing, so we're gonna see spikes that are largely unrelated to the Labor Day weekend," says Pride. And with more fall holidays approaching, Pride says residents will need to continue their vigilance through the holidays as spikes in cases are more likely. 1735

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Young adults in the U.S. are moving more frequently than they did in 1960, according to a new report by Zillow. Data from San Diego, however, paints a different picture. According to the site, 33.8 percent of young adults in 1960 lived in their current home for less than two years. In 2017, more than 45 percent of young adults had lived in their current home for less than two years. San Diego, however, bucks the trend. In America’s Finest City, in 2017 the share of young adults who lived in a home less than two years is 50.6 percent, down from 54.4 percent in 1960. The data show that young San Diegans are moving less than in 1960. Among young adults who recently moved in the San Diego area, more than 68 percent moved within the metro, while 9.4 percent moved from a different metro in the state and 22.3 percent moved from outside the state. According to Zillow, changes in workplace norms have contributed to the changes in housing tenures. Zillow also says that, rather than climb the corporate ladder, many young adults move from one role or job to the next. The typical employed Millennial has been with their current employer for 2.8 years, according to Zillow. 1205
