Fierce winds and lightening strikes created by a powerful dust storm have killed around 100 people in northwestern India since late Wednesday, according to local authorities.In the state of Rajasthan, at least 31 people died and around 120 people were injured after winds downed more than 8,000 electricity poles and uprooted hundreds of trees, Jaipur District Divisional Commissioner T Ravi Kant told CNN."This has resulted in widespread electricity cuts and water shortages. Feeding America, a network of 200 food banks across the United States, expressed concern on Wednesday on pending legislation that could strip food stamps from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program away from nearly 3 million Americans. House Resolution No. 2 is up for consideration by the House of Representatives, which would add employment stipulations to some food stamp recipients, and their families. Feeding America's primary concern is that the nation's food banks will not be able to handle increased demand if the legislation becomes law. "Feeding America's nationwide network of member food banks will not be able to make up for the lost meals," Feeding America said in a statement. "We urge lawmakers in the House to reconsider their approach and amend their legislation before sending it to the Senate to ensure that the final legislation does not take food off the table for families who need it."According to a Congressional Budget Office projection, the federal government would reduce spending on direct benefits by .2 billion from 2019 to 2028. But the CBO claims it would cost the federal government in additional .7 billion in administrative costs to enforce the employment requirement. Overall, the federal government would be projected to save .5 billion over the 10-year period if the employment requirement is enacted. The CBO said that beginning in 2021, food stamp recipients between the ages of 18 and 59 who are neither disabled nor caring for a child under the age of 6 would need to either work or participate in a training program for 20 hours each week; that requirement would increase to 25 hours each week in 2026.The push to add work requirements to those receiving government assistance got a boost last month when President Donald Trump signed an executive order, which was intended to reduce poverty. "As part of our pledge to increase opportunities for those in need, the Federal Government must first enforce work requirements that are required by law," the executive order, signed by Trump on April 10, reads. "It must also strengthen requirements that promote obtaining and maintaining employment in order to move people to independence."Spending on food stamps is part of a larger "Farm Bill" legislation. The total cost for the Farm Bill is 7 billion from 2019 to 2028. The farm bill includes spending on rural development, farm subsidies, crop insurance, in addition to food stamps.  According to USDA figures, 41.2 million people lived in food-insecure households. Nearly 40 million people received Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, as of February 2018. FORT MYERS, Fla., - A new class is coming to Florida Gulf Coast University and it's raising eyebrows.The class is called ‘White Racism’ and will be offered in the Spring. “I thought the name was a little dramatic,” student Jamar Arrindell said. “It's been a growing topic of conversation."The topic took center stage at an open forum Thursday night titled “Race, Immigration and White Supremacy in the Post-Obama era.”“I saw the flyer for the event and had to come,” said Vanessa Fernandez, a former FGCU student. "I think it's important for us to talk through it so we can understand each other's sides”Dr. Ted Thornhill, a sociology professor, will be teaching the course."I understand why some people might be uncomfortable by the title," he said. "But in order to move the conversation forward people have to get comfortable with getting uncomfortable." Thornhill said the new course wasn’t developed in response to racially charged messages found around campus last fall, but to give students a broad idea of the history of racism, white supremacy and how to challenge racism in today’s society. “Silence is not the answer," he said. Bush was taken to a hospital in Maine on Sunday after experiencing low blood pressure and fatigue.Bush's spokesman, Jim McGrath, said in a tweet Sunday afternoon that the President, who is 93 years old, will likely remain at a Southern Maine Health Care facility "for a few days for observation.""The former president is awake and alert, and not in any discomfort," McGrath continued.Bush was previously admitted to a Houston hospital last month after contracting an infection that spread to his blood the day after a funeral was held for his wife, Barbara Bush. For those wondering if “Jeopardy!” would go on after Alex Trebek’s death, Jeopardy producers confirmed on Monday that the show must go on.Jeopardy executive producer Mike Richards released a statement on Monday saying the show would resume production on November 30. The show will resume with Ken Jennings, a former contestant who was deemed the “Greatest of All Time” in January, as the first to guest host following Trebek’s death. Other guest hosts will be announced in the future.Jennings joined the program at the start of the current season as a consulting producer. Before winning the “Greatest of All Time” series in January, Jennings set a still-standing record of 74 wins in a row in 2004.“Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him,” said Richards. “We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues.
