(KGTV) - The driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash in Encinitas that left a mother with severe injuries was sentenced Monday to one year in jail.Justin Parker hit Ashley Lane on Encinitas Blvd. in September 2017. She suffered multiple broken bones, strokes, and partial paralysis.Parker turned himself in two weeks after the hit and run, as investigators were closing in on tips from the community. Investigators say Parker had been drinking prior to the incident.Investigators said Parker drove his truck to a repair shop in Riverside county to repair the damage. Lane made a victim impact statement in Vista court Monday, calling Parker 'selfish' and 'cowardly'."The only reason you turned yourself in was because of the tips from the community of Encinitas and the hard work from my father. WASHINGTON (AP) -- An aide to a firearms-toting congresswoman-elect says she has already asked Capitol Police about carrying her weapon on Capitol grounds once she's sworn into office.The practice is allowed for members of Congress under decades-old congressional regulations.Republican Rep.-elect Lauren Boebert of Colorado is a conservative guns-rights advocate who made the inquiry recently.One of her future colleagues says other members of Congress already carry firearms.The public is barred from carrying guns in the Capitol and its grounds.Boebert's office declined to make her available for an interview with The Associated Press.An aide says her conversation with the Capitol Police was an inquiry about the rules. 732

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Vista Unified School District is calling on the community to donate their new and used instruments. As they add new music programs, the goal is to get an instrument in the hand of every student. "I really feel music has the ability to save lives and it does," said Eric Weirather, Band Director at Rancho Buena Vista High School.Weirather has been organizing instruments coming in, and a recent donation took his breath away.RELATED: See how music is molded — for free — at El Cajon's Taylor Guitar factory“It was really unreal, like a kid in a candy store!" Weirather said.North Coast Church heard about the instrument drive and asked their worshipers to help, and they delivered.“They filled an entire room. I think they might be up to 1,000 instruments they've donated. Think about all the impact that will have on these kids for years to come.”They've received guitars, drums, flutes, ukuleles, tambourines, saxophones, keyboards and much more. Louie Gohmert has tested positive for the coronavirus.The 66-year-old Texas Republican was screened for the virus at the White House on Wednesday morning.Gohmert had gone to the White House because he was planning to fly to Texas with President Donald Trump aboard Air Force One.
