SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Loyal SC announced Thursday they will be wearing a Black Lives Matter alternate kit for the team's first game and for other selected games through 2021.The uniform is all black with dark teal accent and the phrase “Together San Diego” will run down the side of the jersey. Player nameplates will spell out "Black Lives Matters" across the back standing in solidarity with the national-turned-global movement against racism and injustice towards people of color.The team's first game is Saturday in Utah.The organization's goal in aligning itself with the BLM movement is to promote inclusivity and diversity in the community, according to team President Warren Smith."Loyal is more than just our name -- it's our mantra," Smith said. "The Loyal in our name is symbolic of the diversity in our community, and now more than ever we stand by this. It's time to show our loyalty and stand together in the fight against racism and put an end to the violence fueled by hatred against our Black community."The team said it will auction off player-worn jerseys to fans with the profits going toward the Association of African American Educators of San Diego (AAAE), an "organization that advocates for equity in education within the ethnically diverse pupil population of San Diego County."“As a professional sport team, we have a duty to use our voices in a productive, meaningful way to benefit our communities,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and First Team Manager Landon Donovan. “We will not be silent about racial injustice and encourage our fans and community to join us in taking a stand.”The team said it will be giving 10 percent of jersey sales proceeds to the AAAE. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police Officers are patrolling the College Area, cracking down on noise and health order violations as San Diego teeters on the edge of the red tier for coronavirus restrictions.Friday eight cease and desist orders were issued to College Area houses. The reason being the residence "intends to hold large gatherings on Oct. 30, 2020, - Nov. 1, 2020, in blatant violation of the Order of the State Health Officer, the County Order of the Health Officer and Emergency Regulations, and CDPH's October 9, 2020 gathering guidance."Saturday on Dorothy Drive near Dorothy Way it was easy to hear music, excited yelling, and chatter from multiple homes. A steady stream of young people came and left various houses.Normally, Jean Hoeger says it gets pretty wild, but when she went out Friday, "it was pretty quiet you didn't see the hoards of kids walking on the street which is kinda common in the College Area."Hoeger is a representative of the College Area Public Safety Committee."There were parties but they all seemed to be inside small groups, loud noise was not really present so nothing you could call into the police department for a noise disturbance," Hoeger said. She said she was proud the students seem to be abiding by the rules, saying, "If they're partying inside their houses with their little group of friends that's fabulous!"Hoeger said huge parties are the most "disconcerting to us any time of the year because it's just disruptive to the whole neighborhood, when they leave most of them are drunk and unfortunately a lot of sexual assaults happen."Any San Diego State students found violating the university's Stay Home order, which lasts through Monday, Nov. 2 at 6 a.m., could face disciplinary action, up to expulsion.Since Aug. 24, SDSU has issued nearly 970 violations, according to a statement from the university."They should be afraid of the consequences of their actions, whether related to COVID or in regards to the San Diego Municipal Code with regard to noise," Hoeger said.Violating the cease and desist orders could result in a misdemeanor offense and a ,000 fine. 2135

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents downtown are fighting against adding more low-income housing. They say it's only making the homeless problem worse. Merle Jones moved to this East Village high rise for the views and the lush lifestyle."It's categorized as a luxury apartment complex, and there's nothing really luxury about it at all right now," said Jones. Homeless people frequent the streets and sidewalks outside the property. "There was a knife fight that broke out and that was in the afternoon," said Jones. "My girlfriend she's not even comfortable walking outside alone so its an issue."In an effort to fight the deadly Hepatitis A outbreak,  more shelters and housing solutions are popping up downtown. One of them is a 16-story high rise for low-income families on 14th and Commercial Streets. "I don’t believe that's a good idea," said Jones. "I think they need to clean up the area because when you have that type of housing, it attracts attention from other areas."The high rise is one of five Father Joe's projects to add about 2,500 affordable housing units. One-third of them would be downtown. More than 500 people signed an online petition to move more housing solutions to other parts of the county. "I think it would be a nice distribution of the concentration of it so that way it's not just one area and one area's problem," said Jones. For now, he's stuck paying high rent for a view he's not happy with.  "I pay quite a bit, so I expect a certain level of lifestyle when I'm living here," said Jones. "When my lease is up, I do plan on moving towards the other end of downtown that’s a little safer and a lot cleaner."The building is set to open January 2021.  1830

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego health officials reported three unrelated cases of Tuberculosis, one at a South Bay high school and two others at U.S. Navy ships docked in San Diego.One case was reported at San Ysidro High School, according to the county. Health and Human Services Agency and Sweetwater Union High School District officials are warning individuals who were potentially exposed from Jan. 16 to May 31. County staff is providing free testing for students who may have potentially been exposed. The school district will provided staff potentially exposed with free testing as well.The Navy and HHSSA officials are working to alert potentially exposed contractors who worked on two Navy ships between Jan. 10 and July 18:Huntington Ingalls Industries employees who worked on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6), docked at Naval Base San Diego, from January 10 to June 8.General Dynamics NASSCO employees working on the USS Makin Island (LHD-8), docked at NASSCO from March 23 to July 18.The two ships were not accessible to the public and exposure to Navy personnel was extremely limited, according to the county. Contractors are working with occupational health providers to offer free testing.“Testing is recommended for all those exposed to assure they are not infected, since initial infection usually has no symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, County public health officer. “For any infected individuals, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent the infectious form of the disease.”Tuberculosis is transmitted from person-to-person through indoor air during prolonged contact with an infected individual. The county says most people who are exposed don't become infected.Symptoms include persistent cough, fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego health officials Monday night confirmed the county’s first presumptive positive case of coronavirus. Dr. Wilma Wooten said the woman, who is in her 50s, tested positive after traveling overseas to an unspecified location and time."The case and exposure details are under investigation," Wooten said.The woman, a San Diego County resident, is in the hospital and is doing well, according to Wooten. Scripps Health officials confirmed that the patient is being treated at Scripps Green Hospital.Scripps Health also said: "As a cautionary measure, we have taken immediate steps to identify staff who may have been exposed and place them on home quarantine as appropriate with our full support, and we will provide additional staffing as needed. We are also assisting the county in identifying anyone not on Scripps’ staff who may have been exposed. If identified, the county will provide notification and manage those cases."Officials said Scripps Green and the nearby Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines are "safe for patient care and all appointments and procedures are continuing as usual at both facilities."RELATED: Santa Clara County announces first coronavirus deathHealth officials say at least one person in the woman's household is under self-quarantine. In the context of our campus, this will mainly involve offering conventional courses via online teaching and learning tools,” the university said in a message to students and staff. All university-sponsored athletic events are scheduled to continue, but will now be “fan-less,” the school said.
