Dog owners need to stop feeding dogs pig ear treats to end the spread of Salmonella to both humans and dogs nationwide, the CDC said on Wednesday. The CDC's statement comes weeks after previous advisories indicating that dozens have become sick after their dogs consumed pig ear treats. Even after the CDC said two weeks ago that there is a possible correlation between pig ear treats for dogs and Salmonella illness in humans, 34 people have reported an illness. In total, 127 have become ill in connection to this Salmonella outbreak, the CDC says. Nearly 30% of the illnesses have resulted in hospitalizations, the CDC says. The CDC said that the treats came from many different suppliers and is the likely source of this outbreak. The CDC offers the following advice:Tips to stay healthy while feeding your dogAlways wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water right after handling pet food or treats, including pig ears. When possible, store pet food and treats away from where human food is stored or prepared and away from the reach of young children.Don’t use your pet’s feeding bowl to scoop food. Use a clean, dedicated scoop, spoon, or cup.Always follow any storage instructions on pet food bags or containers.Play safelyDon’t let your pet lick your mouth or face after it eats pet food or treats.Don’t let your pet lick any open wounds or areas with broken skin.If you do play with your pet after it has just eaten, wash your hands and any part of your body it licked with soap and water.Shop safelyAlways wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after touching unpackaged pet treats, such as food or treats in bulk bins.Take extra care around young childrenChildren younger than 5 years old should not touch or eat pet food or treats.Young children are at risk for illness because their immune systems are still developing and because they are more likely than others to put their fingers or other items into their mouths.Adults should supervise handwashing for young childrenHow do I know if my dog has Salmonella infection? Some dogs may have Salmonella infection but may not look sick. Dogs with a Salmonella infection usually have diarrhea that may contain blood or mucus. Affected animals may seem more tired than usual, and may have a fever or vomit. If your dog or cat has these signs of illness or you are concerned that your pet may have Salmonellainfection, please contact your pet’s veterinarian. 2439

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Bodycam video released by Colorado Springs police Thursday shows 19-year-old De'Von Bailey running from officers when he was fatally shot earlier this month.Police claim Bailey and another man were suspects in a robbery that happened minutes earlier Aug. 3 and that Bailey had a weapon. Video showed police grabbing something from between Bailey's legs, but the footage does not clearly show what it was. Authorities have said officers recovered a weapon at the scene. The bodycam video shows Bailey and the other man standing in the street in front of police with their hands up. The officers, Sgt. Alan Van't Land and officer Blake Evenson, told Bailey and the other man that they had gotten a report of "two people, similar descriptions, possibly having a gun."One officer told the two of them to not reach for their waist and that they would check to make sure they didn't have a weapon. As another officer walked up behind Bailey, the teen took off running to his right. The officer with the bodycam chased Bailey and pulled out his weapon, yelling, "Hands up! Hands up!" The officers then fired at least eights shots at Bailey, striking him in the lower back.Bailey fell to the ground and an officer again yelled, "Hands up! Hands up!" Bailey lifted one hand and then fell back to the ground. The officers immediately called for a medical kit and began tending to Bailey's wound. As the officers searched Bailey's body, they found "something between his legs," Evenson said on the video. Both officers then said the item was a gun, but it was unclear on the footage what the officers found.Watch the edited video of the shooting: 1678
