White House senior adviser Jared Kushner called for unity Monday at the opening of the United States' new embassy in Jerusalem, according to excerpts of his speech released by the White House."We believe, it is possible for both sides to gain more than they give -- so that all people can live in peace -- safe from danger, free from fear, and able to pursue their dreams."Jerusalem must remain a city that brings people of all faiths together," Kushner said. The senior adviser's speech comes after at least 41 people were killed during clashes earlier in the day along the border fence between Israel and Gaza, the most fatalities suffered in a single day since the latest round of demonstrations began more than six weeks ago.Kushner also praised to praise President Donald Trump's efforts to move the US embassy to Jerusalem."While presidents before him have backed down from their pledge to move the American Embassy once they were in office, this President delivered. Because when President Trump makes a promise, he keeps it," Kushner stated.Kushner, who is also the President's son-in-law, has been leading efforts to broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace proposal, though any accord would be colored by the administration's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and decision to move the US embassy there from Tel Aviv.During his speech, Kushner is also expected to praise Israel as a country that "proves every day the boundless power of freedom.""This land is the only land in the Middle East in which Jews, Muslims, and Christians, and people of all faiths participate and worship freely according to their beliefs," Kushner said. "Israel protects women's rights, freedom of speech, and the right of every individual to reach their God-given potential."Kushner is also remarked on Iran, calling it "flawed" and "one-sided" less than a week after Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal."Iran's aggression threatens the many peace-loving citizens throughout the region and the world," Kushner said. "From Israel to Jordan to Egypt to Saudi Arabia and beyond, many leaders are fighting to modernize their countries and create better lives for their people. In confronting common threats, and in pursuit of common interests, previously unimaginable opportunities and alliances are starting to emerge."Kushner also criticized recent protests, saying that "those provoking violence are part of the problem and not part of the solution."US ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin, White House senior adviser and first daughter Ivanka Trump, and special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt attended the ceremony as part of the US delegation.  2782

WEST PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - In Ohio, a dad turned an awkward silence into a beautiful moment when he belted out the national anthem at a high school basketball game after the sound system failed. The moment captured on video took place before the Waverly Tigers were to take on the Portsmouth West Senators Friday night.According to CNN, the pregame rituals started as usual, with everyone standing before playing the national anthem, but then, silence. The sound system was experiencing technical difficulties. That's when Trenton Brown began to belt out "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the encouragement of his wife, with no musical backup or a microphone. After he was done singing, Brown sat down and started eating his popcorn, CNN reported.Johnny Futhey, another parent who was at the game, captured the moment and posted it on his Facebook page, where it quickly went viral.Futhey said the performance brought tears to people's eyes.Brown told CNN that he's been singing most of his life but has never performed the national anthem solo. 1042

Wildlife biologists with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida shared a shocking python find in Collier-Seminole State Forest on Thursday. An invasive Burmese python's eyes were a little bigger than its stomach when it decided to devour a white-tailed deer fawn. Officials say pythons have been known to kill and ingest large prey and this was a record breaking meal.  Officials stumbled upon the python with the massive prey inside. The biologists removed the python out of the wild into an open area and the python was stressed so it pushed the deer out of its mouth. In the photo below you can see the breathing tube and tongue of the python as it has its mouth wrapped around the deer. Biologists believe it is the largest python-to-prey ratio documented. The python was 31.5 pounds and the deer was 35 pounds; 111% of the python's mass. The findings will be published in the March 2018 issue of the Herpetological Review.“This observation is another important piece of evidence for the negative impact invasive Burmese pythons are having on native wildlife across the Greater Everglades Ecosystem” said Ian Bartoszek, Conservancy of Southwest Florida wildlife biologist. “Imagine the potential consequences to the state and federally protected Florida panther if Burmese pythons adversely affect the number of white-tailed deer, a panther’s primary prey.”Biologists are focused on the impact the python is having across the food chain. Since 2013, the Conservancy and its research partners have been conducting research to document the invasive Burmese python's biology and behavior in Collier County, including the tracking, removal and necropsy of captured pythons.Kelly Bazzle is the Digital Executive Producer at Scripps Station WFTS. When’s the last time you checked your credit report? A new report by CreditCards.com found nearly half of adults haven’t checked their credit report in the last 6 months. It’s been 6 months since the massive Equifax breach where millions of people’s personal information was leaked. CreditCards.com found out nearly half of us haven’t checked out credit report since then to find out if we were one of the victims. Matt Schulz with CreditCards.com says, "Frankly that’s disturbing."Schulz says, “This was an enormous deal. Key personal information like social security numbers were compromised for nearly 150 million people.”Once your personal information is compromised, it’s out there for good. 74% of you said that having your personal data stolen would be worse than having your cell phone stolen.Schulz recommends you check your credit report once a month. “We don’t think about checking Instagram or Facebook 10x a day but, it seems way too much to ask to go to your bank website or check your credit report on a regular basis.”Now more than ever it’s easy to check your credit report.Schulz says, “A credit report will show you if somebody in particular has opened an account under your name without you knowing about it. And that is potentially one of the most damaging things someone can do.”You can get your vantage score, credit score and free Transunion credit report at places like CreditCards.com"Remember, the last thing you want is for your credit score to be dinged by mistakes that aren’t your own.” 1529

West Virginia public school teachers will strike for an eighth day Monday because the state legislature didn't meet their demand for higher pay and better benefits over the weekend. All 55 counties announced school closures for Monday. About 20,000 teachers walked out February 22, keeping almost 277,000 students out of class.Union leaders say the teachers won't return to work until they get a 5% raise. The pay raise remains in legislative limbo. At the state capitol in Charleston, a conference committee has been appointed?to resolve the differences between the state Senate and House. It's not known when the committee will meet, so it's possible the strike could stretch out for days. The waiting frustrates parents, students and union leaders, who've marched and crowded the state capitol for legislative hearings."We're playing with people's emotions, their livelihoods and it directly affects our students," said Christine Campbell of the American Federation of Teachers. "This is unprecedented. It's confusing and I think (teachers are) disheartened by the process."West Virginia public teachers earn?an average salary of about ,000, making them among the lowest paid educators in the United States.Gov. Jim Justice and the union leaders agreed earlier in the week that teachers and service personnel would receive a 5% pay raise. However, that raise must be passed as a law, since West Virginia is not a collective bargaining state. The bill quickly passed in the House Wednesday, but Senate lawmakers expressed concern about how the state will fund the raise.Democrats say new revenue projections show the money is there and that a difference of one percent would amount to million. On Saturday, after hours of passionate argument and discussion by lawmakers, the state Senate passed a version of the bill that provides a 4% raise. The House voted not to adopt the 4% version of the bill. With no agreement between the chambers, the conference committee was created.Three members from the House and three from the Senate -- two Republicans and one Democrat -- were selected. The group will have three days to come to a decision about the bill.A brief period of confusion occurred Saturday night after the Senate believed it had voted for the 4% raise. But a House version of the bill, which favored the higher pay raise, had somehow been entered into the Senate voting system and was approved by unsuspecting Senate members. When the error was discovered, the Senate corrected the mistake and re-voted for the lower pay raise.Elizabeth Yost, a teacher from Mercer County, said she was not discouraged by the votes in the legislature."When the events unfolded from there, it was evident we have a representative government in the Senate that abused power last night," she said. "Today, my determination, and that of my colleagues, is stronger." 2868
