A shop selling President Donald Trump-themed merchandise in a strip mall in suburban Philadelphia has emerged as a magnet for the president’s backers and a reflection of Pennsylvania’s status as a political battleground this year. The Trump Store in Bensalem sells hats, T-shirts, mugs, water bottles and even an inflatable Trump-shaped innertube. On a recent weekday afternoon, it did steady business over about three hours, with two to three customers continually streaming in and out. Bensalem, in Bucks County, voted for the Democrat in the last two presidential elections despite Republicans’ cutting into Democrats’ margins. Trump won Pennsylvania over Hillary Clinton by less than 1 percentage point in 2012.Photo caption: In this Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, photo, a man walks to The Trump Store in Bensalem, Pa. A woman who survived 17 days in a forest in Hawaii after she got lost while hiking says she was irresponsible for going into the woods unprepared."It was na?ve and irresponsible of me to go out into the woods the way that I did," Amanda Eller, 35, said in a Facebook video Friday. Her response comes amid criticism for her comments comparing her hike last month to a spiritual journey. She acknowledged her words may have "bypassed" the details of what really happened."This was never intentional, and I didn't set out that day on a spiritual journey. I set out that day to go through a simple hike through the woods," she said.Eller has said she set out on a hike to the Makawao Forest Reserve in Maui to connect with nature and get grounded. She rarely went to that park and hadn't been in months. The physical therapist figured she'd go for a 3-mile hike and spend a couple of hours in the woods."I don't really know what happened," she said told reporters Tuesday. "All I can say is that ... I have strong sense of internal guidance, whatever you want to call that -- a voice, spirit, everybody has a different name for it."She said it turned out to be not nearly as strong when after meditating on a log she wanted to go back to her car.She tried one path and it didn't get her back to her car. She tried another and realized she wasn't on a human path; she was on a boar path."At that point I had no choice because everything looked the same. I said, 'The only thing I have is my gut. I don't have a compass. I don't have a cell phone,'" she said. "'So, spirit,' or whatever you want to pray to, I said, 'I need your help right now.'"She said she listened to her sense of guidance, which instead of taking her back to her car, took her on a 5-mile journey, one she called a "spiritual boot camp."She spent 17 days in the woods trying to stay alive and catch the attention of searchers in helicopters. Rescuers found her on May 24 after more than two weeks in the wilderness. She spent two days in a Maui hospital being treated for severe sunburn, a twisted knee and ankle problems before she went home Monday night.Eller thinks the days she spent alone in the woods, surviving on berries and stream water, is part of something bigger, something that has been changing her life since she moved to Maui four years ago. 2331

A single father is looking for help this Christmas. His son is 33 years old and has a severe nonverbal disorder. He said he has seizures regularly, and all he wants this holiday season is Christmas cards. His dad said in a Facebook post that they have never really had Christmas because he is a stay-at-home dad, and the Christmas cards would really make his day. You can send the cards to Marty Mendoza Jr. 419 W Ave C Belton Texas 76513. 452

Acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner John Sanders is resigning, he said in a message sent to agency employees Tuesday, amid the dramatic increase in the number of undocumented migrants crossing the border and a fight over how to address it."Although I will leave it to you to determine whether I was successful, I can unequivocally say that helping support the amazing men and women of CBP has been the most fulfilling and satisfying opportunity of my career," Sander writes. His resignation is effective July 5.Sanders assumed the post after Kevin McAleenan, the former commissioner, moved up to fill the role of acting Department of Homeland Security secretary in the wake of Kirstjen Nielsen's ouster this spring. In his role, Sanders has overseen the agency charged with protecting the nation's border at a time when illegal crossings have hit record levels.Last week President Donald Trump called off planned raids by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, saying deportations would proceed unless Congress finds a solution on the US-Mexico border within two weeks.Sanders did not provide a reason for his departure.Read Sanders's letter here: As some of you are aware, yesterday I offered my resignation to Secretary McAleenan, effective Friday, July 5. In that letter, I quoted a wise man who said to me, "each man will judge their success by their own metrics." Although I will leave it to you to determine whether I was successful, I can unequivocally say that helping support the amazing men and women of CBP has been the most fulfilling and satisfying opportunity of my career.I've spent a significant amount of time over the last several days reflecting on my time at CBP. When I began this journey, Commissioner McAleenan charged me with aligning the mission support organizations and accelerating his priorities. Easy enough, I thought. What I didn't appreciate at the time was how the journey would transform me professionally and personally. This transformation was due in large part to the fact that people embraced and welcomed me in a way that was new to me -- in a way that was truly special. To this day, I get choked up when speaking about it and I can't adequately express my thanks. As a result, let me simply say I will never stop defending the people and the mission for which 427 people gave their lives in the line of duty in defending. Hold your heads high with the honor and distinction that you so richly deserve.Throughout our journey together, your determination and can-do attitude made the real difference. It allowed CBP to accomplish what others thought wasn't possible...what others weren't able to do. And even though there is uncertainty during change, there is also opportunity. I therefore encourage everyone to reflect on all that you have accomplished as a team. My hope is you build upon your accomplishments and embrace new opportunities, remain flexible, and continue to make CBP extraordinary. This is your organization...own it! Don't underestimate the power of momentum as you continue to tackle some of this country's most difficult challenges.I will forever be honored to have served beside you. As a citizen of this great country, I thank you for your public service.Take care of each other,John 3289
