The calendar is about to flip from April to May, and normally storm chasers are flooding Tornado Alley to get a glimpse at the power of Mother Nature. But so far in 2018, there has not been much to chase. According to the National Weather Service, the state of Oklahoma, which is in the heart of Tornado Alley, has gone the entire year so far without a single confirmed tornado touchdown. Not since before 1950 has Oklahoma gone the first four months without a single tornado touchdown. By the end of April, the state would have averaged 17 tornado touchdowns. Last year, 13 tornadoes had touched down by the end of April. In 2016, there were 27 touchdowns in the month of April alone. In 2012, there were 54 confirmed touchdowns in April. The state of Kansas has also gone the entire year without a tornado. According to National Weather Service data, the state averages 12 tornadoes in the month of April alone. "On the whole, across the United States, we have seen around half the number of eyewitnessed tornado reports that we would normally expect by this time of year," Dr. Patrick Marsh, a meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center, told CNN. Meteorologists are blaming, or crediting, a jet stream pattern that has sent big snow storms into the Upper Midwest for the decreased number of tornadoes. The pattern has prevented warm moist air from setting up in the Plains, which has cut off any fuel for potential tornadoes. According to the Storm Prediction Center, the upcoming weekend appears to void of any major severe weather outbreaks. The next potential for severe storms could setup in the Plains on Tuesday and Wednesday.  1692

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded above 30,000 points for the first time Tuesday.The crest came as investors were encouraged by the latest progress on developing coronavirus vaccines and news that the transition of power in the U.S. to President-elect Joe Biden will finally begin.Traders were also encouraged by news that Biden had selected Janet Yellen, a widely respected former Federal Reserve chair, as treasury secretary.The Dow rose more than 400 points, or 1.4%, to trade just over 30,000 midday Tuesday. The S&P 500 index, which has a far greater impact on 401(k) accounts than the Dow, rose 1.3%.Shortly after the Dow crested, President Donald Trump delivered remarks at the White House, congratulating his administration and the people of the U.S.“The stock market has just broken 30,000, never been broken, that number, that’s a sacred number, 30,000. Nobody thought they’d ever see it,” said Trump. “That’s the 9th time since the beginning of 2020 and it’s the 48th time that we’ve broken records during the Trump administration. And I just want to congratulate all the people within the administration that work so hard. And most importantly, I want to congratulate the people of our country, because there are no people like you.”Like others, Trump attributed the success of the stock market to the promising news that multiple vaccines are proving to be effective and headed for FDA approval.“Despite everything that’s taken place with the pandemic, I’m very thrilled with what’s happened on the vaccine front,” said Trump. “That’s been absolutely incredible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ensemble forecast projects will be 207,000 to 218,000 COVID-19 deaths in the United States by Oct. 10.As of Thursday, 197,364 Americans have already perished from the coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University.With the new forecast, that means approximately 9,600 to 20,600 more people could die in the next three weeks.Two previous ensemble forecasts have already been published: one Sept. 3 and another on Sept. 10.The Sept. 3 forecast projected up to 211,000 deaths by Sept. 26. The defense rested its case Tuesday morning in the trial against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort without calling any witnesses, setting the stage for closing arguments Wednesday morning.Manafort spoke for the first time in court during the trial, saying he will not testify.Manafort told Judge T.S.
