NEW DELHI, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- China-India relationship stands at a new starting point, the two should view and approach relations from a strategic and long-term perspective and keep moving forward their partnership to benefit the two countries and peoples, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Tuesday.     He made the remarks in his speech titled "For Peace and Friendship, Win-Win Cooperation and Common Development" at a meeting held by the Indian Council of World Affairs and the Institute of Chinese Studies. We should view and approach our relations from a strategic and long-term perspective and keep moving forward our partnership in the new century to the benefit of our two countries and peoples."     To this end, he proposed that efforts are needed to be step up in the five areas between the two countries: increase exchanges and enhance strategic mutual trust, boost economic cooperation and trade for win-win progress, expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges, strengthen cooperation in multilateral for a to uphold common interests, address each other's concerns and properly handle differences.     "Today, our relations stand at a new starting point. Without friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and India, there would be no development and prosperity of our respective countries, no harmony and rejuvenation of Asia, and no peace and progress of the world," he said.     Yang arrived in India last Sunday. He attended the inauguration ceremony of China's consulate-general in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, met and reached agreement with the West Bengal's Governor and Chief Minister on ways to deepen friendly and multi-faceted cooperation between China and West Bengal.     He called upon Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi Monday. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad agreement on ways to further implement the common understanding reached by leaders of both countries and deepen the China-India strategic and cooperative partnership as well as issues of mutual interest.

BEIJING, May 28 -- China's economy can maintain a steady growth above 8 percent for a relatively long period because of a stable society, a vast market and ample capital, said Cheng Siwei, an economist and former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.    "China's economy can stay in the fast developing track if we work hard and pay enough attention to existing problems," Cheng said at a three-day forum with the theme of "Economic globalization and the choice of Asia: transition, growth and welfare" Wednesday in Shanghai.     "Social stability is crucial to economic development while China has a market of 1.3 billion people, which creates a huge consumption power," said Cheng. "Meanwhile, China's foreign reserves have reached US.68 trillion, and it has built up an ample capital pool."     China also beefed up its efforts to improve education and expand its coverage, which paved the way for sustainable economic development, he said, but added that there were problems China could not afford to ignore. The income of urban residents has tripled that of rural households while the purchasing power in cities was four times larger than that in rural areas.     China faced increasing pressure to protect the environment and in securing raw materials and resources for its economy. It means appointing them (US bond managers) to manage our assets and we only gained a little bit of interest," said Cheng. SKOPJE, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang met here on Monday with Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski with both sides vowing to boost cooperation between the two countries.     "China attaches great importance to the bilateral relations with Macedonia, and regards Macedonia as a trust-worthy partner in the west Balkans," Zhang said.     Zhang pointed out that the bilateral relations between the two countries have made positive progress during the past 15 years, and that economic cooperation and exchanges in the fields such as culture, education and sports have witnessed new development.     Zhang said China is ready to broaden the areas of cooperation between China and Macedonia on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit, and lift the bilateral relations to a new level.     He suggested the two countries should find new areas of cooperation, and push the companies of the two countries to develop cooperation in different forms and through various conduits.     Zhang expressed thanks and gratitude to Macedonia for its stance on one-China policy and its support for China's cause of peaceful unification with Taiwan.     Crvenkovski said Macedonian highly values its relations with China, saying that Macedonia will unswervingly stick to its one-China policy.     "We are ready to work with China to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries in the areas of politics, trade and economy, and international affairs, pushing the bilateral relations forward," Crvenkovski said.     Crvenkovski congratulated China on staging a wonderful Olympic Games in Beijing, and thanked China for its long-time help and support for Macedonia.

LANZHOU, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Inspectors had found poisonous chemical in the Sanlu infant formula produced by one of its partner producers in northwest China's Gansu Province, an official said on Sunday.     Two out of the 12 samples randomly selected from the Sanlu milk powder produced by the Haoniu Dairy Co., Ltd. in Jiuquan City had tested positive for melamine, said Xian Hui, vice-governor of Gansu.     "The products of Haoniu have been sealed up," he said.     The test was conducted after the Sanlu Group, a leading Chinese dairy producer based in northern Hebei Province, admitted that it had found some of its baby milk powder products were contaminated with melamine, a chemical raw material strictly forbidden by the country to be used in food processing.     As of Saturday, a total of 432 babies throughout the nation have been sickened with kidney stones after drinking the contaminated milk powder.     Haoniu was founded in 2002 with the registered capital of 51 million yuan (7.45 million U.S. dollars). Its production was in line with the Sanlu standard and its products use the Sanlu trademark.     As of Saturday night, Gansu has reported 102 cases of infant kidney stone caused by the Sanlu milk powder. Two babies have died, Xian said.     The province has so far seized altogether 164,000 packs of Sanlu milk powder.
